Our Team

Our team is part of Teradata's global engineering organization, focused on building and validating high‑quality data and analytics platforms that support mission‑critical workloads. We work collaboratively across disciplines to design, develop, and test technologies used by customers in on‑premises, cloud, and hybrid environments.

Collaboration, technical excellence, and continuous learning are central to how we work. Our teams share ownership of outcomes and are united by a commitment to building robust, scalable solutions and continuously raising the bar on quality.

Role Overview

The Senior Staff Test Engineer is a senior individual contributor responsible for defining, leading, and executing test strategy for complex, business‑critical features and systems. This role serves as a test architect, providing technical leadership across functional, system, and non‑functional testing while influencing quality standards across multiple teams.

The position requires deep hands‑on expertise, strong system‑level understanding, and the ability to drive quality outcomes across distributed, large‑scale software systems. The Senior Staff Test Engineer partners closely with architects, development teams, and product stakeholders to ensure product readiness, scalability, and customer confidence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own and drive end‑to‑end test strategy for complex, release‑defining features across multiple components or subsystems
  • Act as test architect, defining testing approaches, frameworks, tools, and best practices
  • Design, develop, and evolve automated test frameworks to improve coverage, reliability, and execution efficiency
  • Lead system, integration, regression, and non‑functional testing, including performance, scalability, stress, and endurance testing
  • Simulate customer‑like environments and workloads to validate real‑world usage scenarios
  • Serve as the subject matter expert (SME) for testing, troubleshooting complex system and production‑like issues
  • Identify quality risks early and proactively drive mitigation strategies across teams
  • Collaborate closely with software engineers, architects, and product owners throughout the development lifecycle
  • Drive continuous improvement in testing processes, tools, and infrastructure
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to test engineers across teams
  • Influence quality standards, architectural decisions, and long‑term test strategy across the organization

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
  • 10+ years of experience in software testing, quality engineering, or test automation
  • Proven experience testing complex, distributed, or large‑scale systems
  • Strong expertise in test automation frameworks, tools, and CI/CD integration
  • Hands‑on experience with performance, scalability, and benchmark testing
  • Strong debugging and problem‑solving skills across system‑level failures
  • Experience working in Agile development environments
  • Ability to operate independently, drive initiatives, and influence without direct authority

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience testing database platforms, distributed systems, or cloud‑native services
  • Strong programming or scripting skills (e.g., Python, Java, Go, Shell)
  • Experience with containerized environments and modern cloud platforms
  • Familiarity with customer production environments and operational testing
  • Experience leading cross‑team testing initiatives or large testing programs

Role Characteristics

  • Senior individual contributor role (no direct people management required)
  • High degree of ownership and technical autonomy
  • Broad impact across multiple teams and releases
  • Expected to influence product quality, architecture, and engineering best practices

Location

This position is based in Hyderabad, India. The role may offer flexibility depending on business needs and team alignment. Limited travel may be required.
