We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Senior Software Engineer

In this role, you will

  • Build and execute automation using Java (8+), Playwright (Java), REST-assured, and TestNG (or equivalent test runners).
  • Develop and enhance reusable automation frameworks (Page Object Model, utilities, test data management, reporting).
  • Implement robust API validations including response assertions, contract checks, and JSON schema validation.
  • Contribute to CI/CD automation execution and quality gates using Maven and Jenkins pipelines (or equivalent tooling).
  • Work closely with developers, BAs, and product teams to refine acceptance criteria, define test scenarios, and support shift-left testing (TDD/BDD mindset where applicable).
  • Support validation of platform integrations such as event/message flows (Kafka) and data checks (MongoDB/other stores) where required.
  • Use Git/GitHub (or equivalent) for version control, code reviews, and collaborative development.
  • Actively participate in Agile ceremonies and contribute to continuous improvement of test practices, stability, and execution speed.

To be successful in this role, you should meet the following requirements

  • 2–6 years of hands-on experience in test automation / quality engineering.
  • Strong programming fundamentals in Java (8+) with solid understanding of OOP.
  • Practical experience with:
    • Playwright (Java) for UI automation (or strong UI automation experience with ability to ramp up quickly)
    • REST-assured for API automation
    • TestNG/JUnit for test orchestration
    • Maven/Gradle for build and execution
    • Allure / Extent Reports (or similar) for reporting and insights
  • Good understanding of STLC, test design techniques, and risk-based testing.
  • Experience with CI/CD and source control tools (Jenkins, Git/GitHub).
  • Ability to troubleshoot automation failures using logs, debugging, and root-cause analysis.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work effectively with distributed teams.
  • Good problem solving ability and "can do" attitude

Preferred (nice to have):

  • Exposure to Selenium/Playwright/TestNG or other automation tools and frameworks.
  • Experience in banking / contact centre / enterprise platform testing (WPB domain exposure is a plus).
  • Familiarity with Agile/SAFe ways of working.
  • Relevant testing certifications (e.g., ISTQB) are an advantage.

You’ll achieve more when you join HSBC.
