The Infection Prevention and Control Practitioner will oversee all aspects of the Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) programs and provide leadership, resources, tools, and analytics to reduce/eliminate hospital-acquired infections, manage outbreaks/exposures and improve clinical practice. S/He will serve as a key interface with the Ministry of Public Health and other agencies in coordination with the senior clinical administrative leadership.
Provides consultation and expertise in IPC for professional staff, administrative, medical, clinical, patient care, and support services.
Responsible for surveillance programs for both healthcare acquired infections and disease reporting including collection and analysis of relevant data and implementation of appropriate action plans to address related issues.
Establishes along with relevant stakeholders the IPC Committee to determine the direction of surveillance activities.
Actively monitors and evaluates effectiveness of the IPC strategy.
Participates in the formulation of policies for the control and prevention of Center infection.
Advises and supports under the supervision of the Infection Control Committee Chairman and all heads of departments in the implementation of agreed infection control policies in their specific areas.
Serves as a member of committees related to infection control and collects and records relevant data and information.
Adheres to Qatar government requirements for reportable diseases and outbreak reporting.
Ensures that patients and visitors have access to infection control information.
Contributes to the continuous improvement of systems, processes, and practices to increase productivity and operational efficiency.
Follows all relevant organizational Health, Safety and Environment and Quality Management policies, processes, procedures, and instructions to ensure compliance in all aspects of work and ensure commitment to a culture of continuous improvement to meet quality standards and stakeholder expectations.
Monitors, controls, and reports key performance indicators related to the Department and recommends corrective actions.
Ensures education and training for all facility and contracts staff in proper selection and use of PFE and job or task specific infection control practices.
Investigates infection trends including surgical site, outbreaks, and environmental safety issues.
Monitors isolation practices for both standard and transmission-based precautions.
Advises on infection control aspects regarding clinical equipment.
Conducts surveillance as outlined in the IPC strategy.
Working knowledge of MOPH Infection Prevention and Control standards, the Joint Commission International and other local regulatory requirements.
Demonstrates commitment to customer service and ability to meet the needs and expectations of patients and health care colleagues.
Ability to analyze qualitative and quantitative information for decision support.
Must be able to manage competing priorities, while being extremely adaptable and flexible and maintaining a positive work environment.
Proficiency using Microsoft Windows / Microsoft Office software and electronic medical record.
Minimum 10 years (required).
5 years in acute care settings.
5 of these years can be as a nurse.
4 years’ experience in prevention and control of infection.
Minimum 2 years in GCC (preferred).
