DESCRIPTION:


The VP, Clinical Data Management, provides strategic and operational leadership for a defined region, location, or business unit within the organization. The role is accountable for the delivery of high-quality clinical data management services, ensuring operational excellence, client satisfaction, and adherence to timelines and budgets. The VP develops and implements scalable policies, systems, and processes that drive efficiency, quality, and continuous improvement. This leader is responsible for achieving financial and operational targets while building strong, high-performing teams through effective talent recruitment, development, and retention.
 


RESPONSIBILITIES


Strategic Leadership & Organizational Direction


  • Provide strategic and operational leadership for Clinical Data Management across assigned locations, geographic regions, or business units.


  • Translate organizational strategy into operational plans that drive delivery excellence, scalability, and long-term business growth.


  • Partner with senior leadership to develop and implement strategic initiatives that strengthen organizational capabilities and support business objectives.


Operational Delivery & Client Success


  • Ensure the successful delivery of high-quality clinical data management services across programs and projects, meeting client expectations for quality, timelines, and budget.


  • Establish operational priorities and ensure appropriate resourcing, utilization, and productivity across teams to support delivery commitments.


  • Serve as an executive escalation point for complex operational issues and ensure timely resolution to maintain client satisfaction and project performance.


Financial & Business Performance


  • Accountable for achieving financial and operational performance targets, including revenue, margin, utilization, and productivity metrics.


  • Lead financial planning activities including budget management, forecasting, and resource planning to support business growth and operational efficiency.


  • Monitor and optimize operational performance through the use of key performance indicators and data-driven decision making.


Talent Leadership & Organizational Capability


  • Build and lead high-performing teams by attracting, developing, and retaining top talent across the Clinical Data Management organization.


  • Provide leadership for workforce planning, succession planning, performance management, and leadership development.


  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and employee engagement.


Quality, Compliance & Operational Excellence


  • Ensure adherence to company policies, regulatory requirements, and departmental procedures while maintaining high standards of quality and compliance.


  • Establish and monitor key performance metrics to drive operational effectiveness, continuous improvement, and delivery excellence.


  • Champion initiatives that enhance operational processes, scalability, and efficiency.


Cross-Functional Leadership


  • Collaborate with cross-functional leaders across clinical operations, biometrics, technology, quality, and other functions to ensure aligned strategies and seamless delivery.


  • Contribute to enterprise initiatives that advance innovation, operational capability, and organizational performance.


Client Engagement & Business Development


  • Serve as an executive sponsor and senior liaison for key client relationships, providing governance, oversight, and strategic engagement.


  • Support business development activities including proposals, strategic opportunity planning, and bid defense participation.


  • Contribute to business growth through strong client partnerships and operational credibility.



REQUIREMENTS:


  • Previous experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to successfully perform the responsibilities of the role (typically equivalent to 15+ years of relevant professional experience).


  • 10+ years of progressive leadership and people management experience, including oversight of large or distributed teams.


  • Demonstrated experience leading complex operational organizations and driving strategic initiatives within a global or matrixed environment.


In some cases, an equivalency, consisting of a combination of appropriate education, training and/or directly related experience, will be considered sufficient for an individual to meet the requirements of the role.


Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:


  • Demonstrated executive leadership capability with strong executive presence and the ability to influence senior stakeholders, including executive and C-suite leadership.


  • Exceptional negotiation, stakeholder management, and influencing skills with the ability to drive alignment across complex, matrixed organizations.

  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex information clearly to diverse audiences.
