Role Overview


We are seeking a highly experienced Mechanical Design Subject Matter Expert (SME) specializing in Special Purpose Machines (SPMs), Industrial Automation, and Robotics. The ideal candidate will bring deep technical expertise, strong conceptual design ability, and demonstrated leadership in developing complex automated systems from concept to commissioning.


This role involves guiding design teams, reviewing critical designs, ensuring engineering excellence, driving innovation in automation solutions, and collaborating with crossfunctional teams to deliver high performance machines.


Key Responsibilities


1. Technical Leadership & Design Expertise


  • Lead mechanical design development for Special Purpose Machines, automated assemblies, fixtures, robotic systems, and custom machinery.


  • Drive concept generation, ideation, feasibility studies, mechanism design, and engineering calculations.


  • Provide expert guidance on material selection, manufacturing processes, and machine architecture.


  • Ensure designs meet performance, reliability, safety, and regulatory requirements.


2. Project Execution & Review


  • Oversee complete design lifecycle – conceptualization, 3D modeling, detailing, prototyping, testing, and validation.


  • Verify design integrity via DFMEA, tolerance stack-ups, design reviews, and risk assessments.


  • Collaborate with electrical/controls teams to ensure electromechanical integration.


3. Innovation & Problem-Solving


  • Develop new solutions for complex automation challenges, robotic handling, and precision mechanisms.


  • Benchmark and incorporate emerging technologies in robotics, machine design, and automation.


  • Troubleshoot design issues during manufacturing, assembly, and commissioning.


4. Vendor & Client Collaboration


  • Work with suppliers for component selection and manufacturability improvements.


  • Support client discussions for requirement capture, design justification, and technical presentations.


Required Skills & Experience


Technical Skills


  • Deep mechanical design experience in SPMs, automation equipment, robotics, precision machinery, jigs & fixtures.


  • Strong proficiency in CAD tools (SolidWorks / Creo / Inventor / NX).


  • Expertise in:


    • Mechanism design


    • Actuators, servo systems, and robotics integration


    • Pneumatics/Hydraulics


    • Motion control systems


    • Material and structural analysis


    • GD\&T and tolerance analysis


  • Hands-on prototype testing and problem resolution.


Professional Experience


  • 15–20 years of experience in machine design, preferably in automation, robotics, automotive, manufacturing, or industrial machinery sectors.


  • Proven track record of leading design teams and delivering complex automated systems.


  • Exposure to DFM, DFA, DFMEA, 8D, Six Sigma tools preferred.


Soft Skills


  • Strong communication and presentation skills.


  • Ability to lead cross-functional technical discussions.


  • High innovation mindset with strong analytical and decision-making skills.


Education


  • Bachelor’s / Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related discipline.
