Our mission drives us, every moment of every day, as we develop scalable, groundbreaking solutions to solve the world’s most complex health challenges. Our associates are involved in every stage of molecular diagnostics, from ideation to development and delivery of testing advancements that improve patient outcomes across a range of settings. As a member of our team, you can make an immediate, measurable impact on a global scale, within an environment that fosters career growth and development.

Cepheid is proud to work alongside a community of six fellow Danaher Diagnostics companies. Together, we’re working at the pace of change on diagnostic tools that address the world’s biggest health challenges, driven by knowing that behind every test there is a patient waiting.

Learn about the Danaher Business System which makes everything possible.

The Staff Prototype Engineer is responsible for hands-on assembly and testing of engineering prototypes in the development of Cepheid’s next generation medical diagnostic instrument platforms and production systems. This role works within a team comprised of electrical, mechanical, software and optical engineers to design and test molecular diagnostic systems commercialized as key products in Cepheid's portfolio. You will set the tone for a collaborative environment that values equity of voice and inclusive behaviors.

This position is part of the Prototype Engineering team in the Hardware Engineering organization located in Bengaluru, IDC, India and will be an on-site role.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Assemble and test mechanical, electrical, and electro-optical prototypes in collaboration with subject matter experts using regulated diagnostic instrumentation standards
  • Develop and execute automated test strategies including fixture design and test software integration using platforms such as LabVIEW or Python
  • Evaluate manufacturability of subassemblies and recommend design or process changes to reduce scrap rates, shorten cycle times, and increase error-proofing in compliance with ISO 13485
  • Conduct failure analysis of prototype instruments and subassemblies returned from internal stakeholders using root cause methodologies and documentation tools such as 8D or Fishbone
  • Lead prototype engineering activities including resource allocation, build planning, and cross-functional coordination within regulated product development environments

The essential requirements of the job include:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering (or equivalent technical discipline) with minimum 9 years of experience in hardware and software system integration
  • Minimum 9 years of experience diagnosing and resolving system inter-operability issues using analytical and experimental methods
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks with demonstrated application of basic GD&T principles in component design and documentation
  • Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience assembling and testing mechanical prototypes in a lab or production environment
  • Proven track record managing multiple concurrent component iterations and project deliverables using structured engineering workflows

It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:

  • Experience in a programming language such as Python, C#, or C++.
  • Knowledge in statistics and statistical test software such as Minitab or JMP.
  • Medical device industry experience or equivalent experience in a regulated industry.

Join our winning team today. Together, we’ll accelerate the real-life impact of tomorrow’s science and technology. We partner with customers across the globe to help them solve their most complex challenges, architecting solutions that bring the power of science to life.
