Job Title

Senior Google Cloud Platform Engineer – Cloud Center of Excellence (CoE)

Location

Bangalore, India

Role Overview

The Senior GCP Cloud Administrator – Cloud CoE is a strategic platform role responsible for building, operating, and scaling Google Cloud as an enterprise platform. This role sits within the Cloud Center of Excellence and acts as a custodian of cloud standards, security guardrails, IAM governance, and automation frameworks, enabling product and engineering teams to consume GCP safely and efficiently.

The role goes beyond day‑to‑day administration and focuses on platform design, repeatable patterns, self‑service enablement, and policy‑driven governance, while partnering closely with Security, Architecture, FinOps, and Application Teams.

Key Responsibilities

Cloud CoE & Platform Ownership

  • Act as a GCP platform owner within the Cloud CoE, defining how GCP is consumed across the enterprise.
  • Design, implement, and evolve enterprise GCP landing zones aligned with security, compliance, and scalability standards.
  • Establish golden patterns and reference architectures for projects, networking, IAM, and shared services.
  • Enable self‑service cloud adoption through standardized templates, automation, and documentation.

GCP Organization & Environment Governance

  • Own and operate the GCP Organization, Folders, Projects, and Billing hierarchy.
  • Define and enforce org‑wide policies using GCP Organization Policy Service and guardrails.
  • Standardize project lifecycle management (request, provisioning, configuration, labeling, quotas, and decommissioning).
  • Partner with Application and Infrastructure teams to onboard workloads following CoE standards.

Identity & Access Management (IAM) Strategy

  • Architect and govern enterprise‑scale IAM models across org, folder, and project levels.
  • Define group‑based access standards, custom roles, service account usage, and workload identity patterns.
  • Implement least‑privilege, just‑in‑time, and privileged access approaches in collaboration with Security teams.
  • Drive IAM hygiene and access reviews across GCP environments.

Security, Compliance & Guardrails (CoE Lens)

  • Translate security requirements into codified guardrails rather than manual enforcement.
  • Integrate and operationalize Security Command Center (SCC), audit logging, and monitoring as platform services.
  • Partner with Cloud Security to remediate risks through policy, automation, and preventive controls.
  • Support regulatory, risk, and audit initiatives by providing consistent platform controls and evidence.

Automation & Infrastructure as Code (IaC)

  • Lead Infrastructure as Code adoption for GCP using Terraform or equivalent, aligned with CoE standards.
  • Build and maintain reusable IaC modules for networking, IAM, shared services, and project onboarding.
  • Enable CI/CD‑driven cloud provisioning and policy enforcement.
  • Reduce manual operations by continuously expanding automation coverage.

Enablement & Evangelism

  • Act as a GCP subject‑matter expert for the organization.
  • Educate engineering and IT teams on how to use GCP safely and efficiently within CoE guardrails.
  • Maintain clear documentation, runbooks, and onboarding guides.
  • Provide consultative guidance to teams designing or migrating workloads to GCP.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years of cloud or infrastructure experience, with strong hands‑on GCP focus.
  • Proven experience managing GCP Organization, Projects, IAM, and Policies at enterprise scale.
  • Strong expertise in Terraform (or similar IaC tools) and automation‑first operations.
  • Solid understanding of cloud security, IAM governance, and policy‑driven controls.
  • Experience working within or alongside a Cloud Center of Excellence or Platform Engineering team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Google Cloud certifications (Professional Cloud Architect, Professional Cloud Security Engineer).
  • Experience in multi‑cloud governance (AWS / Azure) within a centralized CoE model.
  • Familiarity with FinOps concepts (budgets, quotas, cost controls, chargeback).
  • Experience designing developer self‑service platforms or portals on top of cloud APIs.

Core CoE Competencies

  • Platform thinking over ad‑hoc administration
  • Automation and guardrails over manual controls
  • Security‑by‑design and least‑privilege IAM
  • Strong collaboration across Security, Architecture, and Engineering
  • Ability to influence without direct authority
