Key Responsibilities



Controls Design & Development



  • Design and develop PLC programs using Allen-Bradley Studio 5000, Siemens TIA Portal, WinCC, and SIMATIC Manager.
  • Develop and implement HMI/SCADA interfaces (FactoryTalk View, WinCC) for operator monitoring and control.
  • Implement redundancy strategies for CPU, I/O, and network levels to ensure high availability.
  • Develop control philosophies, test procedures, and sequence-of-operations documentation.

Instrumentation & System Integration



  • Select, integrate, and calibrate field instruments (flow, pressure, level, pH, turbidity, DO, TSS) and ensure proper integration with PLC/SCADA systems.
  • Configure industrial communication protocols (Modbus, Profinet, OPC UA, Canbus).
  • Perform loop checks, signal validation, and troubleshoot instrumentation issues during commissioning.
  • Review P&IDs, datasheets, and specifications to define automation scope.

Project Execution & Collaboration



  • Take ownership of project automation deliverables, ensuring quality, schedule, and cost compliance.
  • Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, and process engineers to ensure seamless integration.
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers in PLC/HMI programming and instrumentation integration.
  • Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, and technical workshops.

Global Coordination



  • Coordinate with international teams and stakeholders across time zones.
  • Represent the automation discipline in technical discussions and client interactions.
  • Clearly communicate technical concepts in English in multicultural environments.

Skills & Qualifications



Must-Have



  • Bachelor’s degree in Instrumentation, Electrical, or Electronics & Communication Engineering.
  • 5–8 years of experience in PLC/HMI/SCADA development for water/wastewater projects.
  • Expertise in Allen-Bradley (CompactLogix, ControlLogix) and Siemens (TIA Portal, WinCC) platforms.
  • Strong command of IEC 61131-3 programming languages (Ladder, FBD, STL).
  • Experience in redundant CPU, I/O, and network architectures.
  • Experience with remote monitoring platforms such as EWON, Red Lion devices, or similar solutions.
  • Proven FAT/SAT execution and site commissioning experience.
  • Experience with instrument selection, integration, and calibration.
  • Knowledge of industrial communication protocols (Modbus, Profinet, OPC UA, Canbus).
  • Ability to read P&IDs, control narratives, and specifications.
  • Excellent English communication and teamwork skills.

Nice-to-Have



  • Experience in EPC projects.
  • Exposure to C programming, SQL, or VB for advanced reporting/data handling.
  • Familiarity with IoT/IIoT devices for monitoring and control
  • Knowledge of version control systems.
  • Process understanding of STP/ETP, UV, Ozonation, filtration systems.
  • Familiarity with VFDs, pump control, and energy optimization.
  • Experience mentoring junior automation engineers.

This role requires effective management of tasks and priorities along with strong problem-solving and analytical skills. Effective communication in English is essential.
