Job description

We're seeking a Software Development Manager to lead an engineering team within Amazon's Center of Excellence for Orchestration (ORCA). As a tier-1 service, it delivers operational excellence with automated scaling, throttling, and retry mechanisms, handling peak loads without customer intervention. It supports synchronous request-response, asynchronous execution, time-based scheduling, and event-driven triggers while seamlessly integrating with AWS services and SDO solutions like Datapath and Sable.
You'll drive technical excellence by establishing roadmaps and ensuring operational reliability across the platform. Your team will build robust, scalable solutions that maintain high availability for Amazon's most critical business operations. The ideal candidate brings strong technical leadership in distributed systems and workflow orchestration, with exceptional system design skills and a proven track record in engineering management. You'll collaborate with product management, architecture teams, and business stakeholders while maintaining focus on engineering excellence and operational reliability.
- 3+ years of engineering team management experience
- 7+ years of engineering experience
- 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams
- Experience designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems
- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
