Interested in shaping how hundreds of millions of customers interact with Alexa every day?
Alexa Daily Essentials (ADE) is the backbone of Alexa's most-used daily features — the capabilities customers rely on to stay organized, informed, and productive. From managing calendars and reminders to remembering personal preferences and surfacing the right information at the right time, ADE makes Alexa indispensable in customers' daily lives.
We are looking for a passionate and experienced Software Development Manager to lead engineering teams across three high-impact program areas:
Customer Artifact Management (CAM)
Build and scale the systems that ingest, process, and manage customer artifacts — including PDFs, documents, images, spreadsheets, presentations, and integrations with third-party platforms like Google Drive, Dropbox, and email inboxes. You will drive latency optimization, expand format support, and architect the pipelines that make customer content instantly accessible and actionable through Alexa.
Notes & Memory
Own the intelligence layer that allows Alexa to remember, recall, and reason over customer information. This includes extracting structured knowledge from artifacts (calendars, reminders, tasks, shopping lists, education-related content), building memory systems that personalize Alexa's responses, and creating the foundation for a truly context-aware assistant that knows what matters to each customer.
GenAI Tooling
Lead the development of Generative AI tools and frameworks that accelerate engineering productivity across all of ADE. This team builds internal GenAI-powered developer tools, drives adoption of large language models in production workflows, and pioneers new approaches to automate and enhance how Alexa features are built, tested, and deployed.
The Role
As a Software Development Manager, you will lead multiple engineering teams in the design, development, testing, and deployment of customer-facing Alexa capabilities and internal tooling platforms. You will own the full stack — from front-end experiences on Alexa devices and the Alexa Mobile App to backend systems spanning storage, ML pipelines, and data analytics.
Key Responsibilities:
- Own the end-to-end systems development lifecycle across CAM, Notes/Memory, and GenAI Tooling programs
- Lead and execute against project plans and delivery commitments within an Agile/Scrum environment
- Hire, mentor, and grow a best-in-class engineering team; manage departmental resources and staffing
- Partner closely with engineers to architect and develop robust, scalable technical solutions
- Drive GenAI adoption and tooling strategy across the broader ADE organization
- Report on development status, system performance, and operational excellence to senior leadership
- Collaborate with product, science, and cross-functional teams to define product features and system architecture
- 7+ years of engineering experience
- 3+ years of engineering team management experience
- 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams
- Experience designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems
- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
