  • Key Responsibilities

       1. Shift supervision and team leadership



  • Supervise and coordinate the activities of STP operators, technicians, and helpers on the assigned shift, ensuring smooth handover and clear communication via shift logs.
  • Assign duties, monitor work performance, and take immediate corrective action if any safety or operational standard is not followed.

       2. STP process control and monitoring



  • Monitor key STP processes including influent flow, primary treatment, biological treatment (e.g., MBBR/SBR/UASB), sludge handling, and final effluent discharge to ensure compliance with PCB/CPCB‑type norms.
  • Record critical parameters (flow, pH, DO, BOD/COD indicators, sludge levels, etc.) in the shift log and escalate deviations to the Plant Supervisor.

       3. Digester and biogas‑CHP operations



  • Operate and monitor the anaerobic digester (sludge feeding, mixing, temperature, pH, gas production) and ensure stable biogas generation for the CHP unit.
  • Supervise operation of the CHP (biogas engine/generator and heat recovery) system, including start‑up, shutdown, load balancing, and basic troubleshooting, ensuring optimal power generation and thermal utilization.

       4. Maintenance and safety coordination



  • Coordinate with the maintenance team for preventive, corrective, and breakdown maintenance of pumps, blowers, clarifiers, digesters, CHP system, and other critical equipment during the shift.
  • Ensure strict adherence to safety rules, isolation procedures, and PPE usage; stop unsafe work and report near‑misses or incidents immediately.

       5. Emergency response and reporting



  • Act as the first‑line response leader for plant emergencies such as power failure, digester upset, CHP tripping, or effluent quality issues, implementing contingency plans and informing the Plant Supervisor/Plant Head.
  • Prepare shift reports on process performance, maintenance activities, incidents, and any outstanding issues for the next shift and management review.

  • Qualifications and Experience
  • Education: Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Environmental  / Mechanical / Electrical / Chemical Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Experience:
  • Minimum 6–10 years of experience in Sewage or Wastewater Treatment Plant operations, with at least 2–3 years in a supervisory or shift‑in‑charge role.
  • Hands‑on experience with anaerobic digestion, biogas handling, and CHP/co‑generation systems is highly preferred.
  • Technical skills:
  • Familiarity with PLC/SCADA, basic instrumentation, and STP process control.
  • Working knowledge of environmental safety standards, STP process charts, and shift‑log reporting.
  • Competency
  • Strong leadership and problem‑solving skills under shift‑work pressure.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with operators, supervisors, and external agencies.
  • Vigilant mindset towards process stability, safety, and compliance.
