The purpose of your role



The Senior Manager AM Risk, AM GSC Bangalore has 2 main responsibilities.



  • To support the AM Head of Risk Strategy & Governance in the execution their duties which will include the effective enterprise-wide governance of HSBC Asset Management business inter alia Risk Governance and RAS.  This will involve collaboration with country CROs, regional CROs and local entity risk stewards across the risk taxonomy, assisting with initiatives to elevate and maintain high standards of governance.  You will leverage the activities of the GSC to support risk insights and assist with the delivery of robust solutions that meet internal and regulatory standards for Asset Management.
  • Lead the Risk Support given to senior managers of Asset Management’s global service centre (GSC) in Bangalore.  The role will lead the 2LOD advise and challenge of control execution across the risk taxonomy, support a strong risk culture, advising on the systems and controls that manage and monitor risks, and ensuring the residual risks of the GSC are sustainably managed within appetite.

Your core objectives will be



  • Contributing to the global risk oversight framework, supporting active management of all risks within Asset Management.
  • Delivering data driven insights that support the active management of changing risk profiles with specific attention to Resilience, Compliance and Financial Crime risk types.
  • Uplifting the communication and quality of support made available to the Chief Risk Officers of AM local entities.
  • Accountable for the 2LOD Risk oversight of the AM GSC as defined in the HSBC Risk Management Framework
  • Maintain a comprehensive 2LOD perspective on all risks affecting the Bangalore GSC
  • Strengthening risk culture across Bangalore GSC through the identification and sharing of risk management best practice, ensuring timely escalations and accurate records of incidents by the 1LOD, including root causes and progress towards remediations.
  • Ensuring a clear delineation of risk and control ownership between the service centre and global Risk Owners.     

In this role, you will:



Principal Accountabilities and Responsibilities (e.g., for Business, Customers and Stakeholders; internal control environment, etc.)



  • Supporting the delivery of the annual risk appetite review for Asset Management.
  • Establishing analytics that monitor the changing risk profile of business activities across the full spectrum of AM products.  
  • Co-ordinating enterprise wide ‘forward looking risk’, ‘emerging risk’ and ‘read across’ analysis in response to changing activities and the external environment impacting Asset Management.
  • Any other activity as directed by the AM Head of Risk Strategy & Governance
  • Support global risk steward enquiries relating to the GSC.
  • Setting the 2LOD priorities for Risk management of AM BLR and leading the local independent oversight function (excluding investment risk)
  • Represent the 2LOD at the BLR entity governance forum and other local/global working groups as required
  • Delivering opinion on the integrity of systems and controls of the GSC BLR
  • Operating as a partner to the business, supporting growth aspirations with close attention to the expected standards of AM and HSBC group policies and standards.
  • Management of the AM Risk Map, informing users for any system changes in relation to the Risk Map
  • Provide support for any local entity investments/ acquisitions. E.g. due diligence reviews

Leadership & Teamwork 



  • The role will require effective engagement with a matrix of senior stakeholders including the GSC Entity Head for Asset Management, 1LOD control owners, CROs, Head of Investment Risk in BLR and global and local entity risk stewards.
  • Team leadership with 1 direct report (hire post appointment)

To be successful you will:



To be selected for this role you will be expected to demonstrate



  • In excess of 10+ years’ experience in asset management or banking, with a track record of enterprise-wide risk management
  • Expert knowledge of risk management frameworks and systems.
  • A track record of risk and control experience ideally in the context of a GSC.
  • Savy with technologies for data visualisation and reporting, knowledgeable of machine learning and AI tools would be looked on favourably.
  • A prior role with formal people leadership responsibilities is preferred but not essential, but you will need the ability to inspire, develop and nurture others.
  • An interest in the regulatory landscape of Asset Management
  • Consider yourself to be a curious, well-organized, analytical, team-player with the ability to think independently and act in accordance with the HSBC values.
