The Senior Environment Artist is responsible for creating high-end 3D environments for shots and sequences while mentoring mid and junior team members.
The role balances technical and artistic demands and helps set the standard for environment creation and layout workflows.
Duties: Hero Environment Creation: Build detailed, shot-ready environments using modular and custom elements Scene Assembly: Manage large-scale scenes for use in lookdev and lighting Technical Oversight: Ensure environments are clean, efficient, and fit into studio pipeline requirements Mentorship: Provide support and review feedback for mid and junior artists.
Support the team in elevating both output and efficiency.
Collaboration: Resolve scene integration issues with layout, lighting, and comp Visual Fidelity: Maintain realism, composition, and scale accuracy in all environments Scene Organisation: Maintain high standards of scene cleanliness and usability Documentation: Contribute to internal guides and support workflow clarity Deliver visually strong, technically efficient environments on time Lead by example and help elevate team output quality Actively improve scene workflows and modular practices Skills, attributes and experience: Expert in Maya, Houdini, Substance, Mari, and environment build tools Advanced knowledge of layout, modularity, and large-scale scene management Strong technical problem-solving and communication Excellent eye for composition, lighting, and form Experience of using on-set data such as photogrammetry and lidar USD layout integration or scene referencing experience Familiarity with SpeedTree, Gaea, or terrain workflows Python or tool feedback experience is a plus Understanding of camera projection, matte painting, and DMP workflows Ability to create and improve team tools or workflows Excellent communicator, sharing information clearly and actively listening Strong time management, ability to prioritize, meet deadlines and escalate delays in a timely manner Adaptable to change with the ability to stay focused and maintain a positive attitude Driven to make things better with flexibility to change course when needed Positive energy, focusing on results and having a positive impact on those around you Self awareness and an ability to resolve and diffuse problems treating others with kindness and respect Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work well with others 6–8 years in VFX or a related field
