DESCRIPTION:
Join our collaborative team as a Senior Software Engineering Manager at Thermo Fisher Scientific, where you'll lead software development initiatives that advance scientific discovery and improve lives. You'll support engineering teams in developing innovative solutions across our portfolio, from cloud platforms and AI applications to laboratory automation and diagnostic systems. In this role, you'll promote technical excellence, encourage innovation, and support teams to deliver high-quality software that serves our mission of enabling customers to make the world healthier, cleaner, and safer.
Working closely with cross-functional partners, you'll set strategic direction, implement agile methodologies, and ensure successful delivery of complex software projects. You'll mentor and develop talent, build collaborative relationships across teams, and facilitate continuous improvement in our software development practices. This role offers the opportunity to work with emerging technologies while solving meaningful challenges in scientific instrumentation, laboratory informatics, and digital transformation.
REQUIREMENTS:


Experience


  • 12+ years of experience in software engineering, DevOps, or platform engineering.
  • 5+ years of people management experience, including managing managers.
  • Proven track record leading DevOps or platform organizations at scale.
  • Experience with:
    • Kubernetes, preferably Amazon EKS
    • Observability systems (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, OpenTelemetry, ELK)
    • CI/CD platforms, preferably GitHub Actions
  • Experience operating in complex, regulated, or large enterprise environments is a plus.
  • Demonstrated success working with globally distributed teams.

  • Act as a senior partner to product, security, infrastructure, and application engineering leaders.
  • Deep understanding of DevOps, TechOps, and cloud-native operating models.
  • Translate complex technical topics into clear business outcomes for senior leadership.
  • Drive alignment across teams through clear documentation, architectural decision records, runbooks, and operational playbooks.
  • Prepare and deliver executive-ready presentations on platform strategy, risks, metrics, and investment needs.
  • Own and continuously improve SDLC processes including CI/CD, release management, incident management, and post-incident reviews.
  • Ensure compliance with internal standards, security requirements, and audits where applicable.
  • Drive engineering excellence across reliability, security, performance, and operational readiness.
