The Opportunity

At Hitachi Energy, we don’t just build software—we build the future of energy. As a Senior EMS Developer – Power Systems Applications, you’ll be part of a team that’s transforming how electricity flows through the grid, integrating renewables, and enabling smarter, more resilient infrastructure. Our software powers the largest transmission and distribution networks across the globe, and your work will directly impact how energy is delivered to millions.

This role is ideal for someone who thrives at the intersection of engineering and innovation. You’ll lead development efforts that model, simulate, and optimize complex power systems, collaborating with experts in grid operations, software architecture, and data science. Whether you're refining algorithms for contingency analysis or enhancing user experience for control applications, your contributions will help utilities operate more efficiently and sustainably.

We’re looking for curious minds who enjoy solving real-world challenges, experimenting with new technologies, and working in agile, cross-functional teams. If you’re passionate about building solutions that matter—and want to be part of a company that values your growth and impact—this is your opportunity to energize your career.

How you’ll make an impact:

  • Lead development of software applications for grid control and optimization.
  • Act as a software developer to support other application engineers in our system deliveries to customers in Europe, Asia, Africa, and Oceania.
  • Design and develop software solutions for GMS/EMS applications, contributing to the enhancement of system functionality, performance, and integration capabilities.
  • Collaborate with our customers' experts to configure our applications to meet the customer requirements.
  • Work closely with customers to develop efficient and robust workflow integrations between SCADA/EMS/GMS systems and other IT/OT systems, leveraging state-of-the-art interface and integration technologies.
  • Create and execute test plans and procedures with customers to ensure the system meets contractual requirements.
  • Provide training to customers on operating EMS/GMS functions within the system.
  • Coordinate and efficiently resolve technical problems reported by customers in collaboration with our technical team.
  • Provide expert support to the proposals and tendering team, enabling Hitachi Energy to submit high quality bids.
  • Responsible for ensuring compliance with applicable external and internal regulations, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Hitachi Energy’s core values safety and integrity, which means taking responsibility for your own actions while caring for your colleagues and the business

Your Background:

  • More than 5 years of professional experience in software development.
  • Master’s (or higher) degree in energy systems, electrical engineering, or computer science.
  • Basic understanding of electric power generation and transmission networks.
  • Experience with GMS/EMS/SCADA systems.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as C, C++, and FORTRAN.
  • Willingness to travel and work at our customer locations.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills, with an eagerness to thrive in a dynamic and multicultural environment.
  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken, to effectively engage with a diverse range of stakeholders
