Sr Dir - Database Design & Acquisition


What you will do

In this vital role you will provide enterprise leadership for database design and data acquisition capabilities across Amgen’s clinical portfolio, ensuring scalable, high-quality, and efficient delivery of clinical database builds and integrated data acquisition solutions that accelerate study execution and improve patient outcomes.


  • Provide global leadership for the Database Design & Acquisition (DDA) function, overseeing therapeutic area leads, database design leads, and data acquisition leads across the portfolio.
  • Define and execute the enterprise strategy for database design and data acquisition, ensuring timely, high-quality builds with minimized split go-lives and reduced mid-study changes.
  • Partner with Data Management and Clinical Systems leadership to align database design, acquisition standards, and integration capabilities with enterprise platforms and long-term technology strategy.
  • Establish and monitor performance metrics including cycle times, edit check efficiency, integration quality, and delivery performance to drive operational excellence and accountability.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives across DDA, driving process optimization, automation, innovation, and adoption of modern database design and integration capabilities.
  • Optimize the global sourcing and delivery model across internal teams, FSP partners, and global locations to ensure scalable, cost-effective, and high-performing operations.
  • Serve as the senior escalation point for complex database build, integration, and supplier challenges, ensuring study milestones and portfolio delivery remain on track.
  • Represent the DDA function in executive forums and external partnerships, positioning Amgen’s database design and acquisition capabilities as industry leading.

What we expect of you


We are all different, yet we all use our unique contributions to serve patients. The candidate we seek is an individual with the following qualifications.


Basic Qualifications:


  • Doctorate degree & 12 years of clinical execution experience or equivalent OR
  • Master’s degree & 18 years of clinical execution experience or equivalent OR
  • Bachelor’s degree & 20 years of clinical execution experience or equivalent OR
  • In addition to meeting at least one of the above requirements, you must have a minimum of 5 years' experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs, or directing the allocation of resources. Your managerial experience may run concurrently with the required technical experience referenced above

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Doctorate degree and 10 years of clinical execution experience OR
  • Master’s degree and 15 years of clinical execution experience OR
  • Bachelor’s degree and 18 years of clinical execution experience
  • In addition to meeting at least one of the above requirements, you must have at least 4 years’ experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs, or directing the allocation of resources. Your managerial experience may run concurrently with the required technical experience referenced above

The annual base salary range for this opportunity in the U.S. is [Talent Acquisition to input market pay range].
