Your Role: Senior Data Engineer


As a Senior Data Engineer in the Enterprise Data Products team at Elanco, you will be at the heart of our data transformation journey. You will design, build, and scale professional-grade data pipelines on Microsoft Azure to support our global scientific and business teams. From R&D to Supply Chain, your work will turn complex data into high-value products that drive insights in animal health.


To be successful at Elanco, you must be a highly motivated individual with an innovative mindset and a drive for tangible outcomes. You should be able to articulate complex technical topics, collaborate with global partners, and ensure the high-quality delivery of data products.


Your Responsibilities:


  • Build & Optimize: Develop scalable, secure ETL/ELT pipelines using Azure Data Factory and Databricks.
  • Maintain & Support: Proactively monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize existing pipelines to ensure high availability and performance across global production environments (16x7 support model).
  • Ensure Quality: Implement automated testing frameworks for data validation, reconciliation, and schema integrity.
  • Innovation & Modernization: Own initiatives to transition legacy data products to modern architectures, ensuring optimal scalability.
  • Govern: Apply best practices in Data Management, Master Data Management (MDM), and Knowledge Graph representation.
  • Collaborate: Work within Agile sprints alongside Product Managers, Data Architects, and Engineering Squads.

What You Need to Succeed (minimum qualifications):


  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field.
  • Azure Expertise: 2.5 to 5 years of hands-on experience with ADF, ADLS, Azure SQL DB, and Cosmos DB.
  • Databricks & Spark: Proven ability to develop complex pipelines using Databricks and PySpark.
  • Testing Rigor: Strong experience in data profiling, ETL testing, and automation frameworks.
  • Incident Management: Familiarity with ITIL processes and ServiceNow for incident management.
  • Experience: 5–7 years of total IT experience in data engineering and product delivery.

What will give you a competitive edge (preferred qualifications):


  • DevOps & Quality: Experience with SonarQube for code quality analysis and implementing CI/CD using Databricks Asset Bundles (DABs).
  • Databricks Certified Data Engineer Associate.
  • Automation: Experience with Azure DevOps, GitHub, and Infrastructure as Code (ARM Templates).
  • Architecture: Familiarity with Spark 3.x and serverless architectures (Azure Functions, Logic Apps).
  • Data Strategy: Knowledge of Data Governance and Metadata Management tools.
