Job Description

LDC is looking for a Research Analyst to join the Research and Trading team under Pulses platform who will be solely responsible for primary and secondary data collection and participating crop production analyses, share production related aspects and trend analysis to the business and contribute towards effective business results.


Duties & Responsibilities:


  • Implement and supervise the agreed research methodology for analytical crop estimation.
  • Contribute to the development of research methodology and strategy, including continuous refinement based on observations during crop tours.
    Build and maintain global balance sheets for all types of agri commodities.
  • Conduct primary research and data collection from various sources to analyze trends in prices, volumes, and market behavior.
  • Conduct crop tours across different regions of India — the role requires extensive travel.

Estimate Agri commodity area by:
a) Regularly collecting data from official sources
b) Confirming area estimates through visual assessments of area changes
c) Conducting farmer interviews
d) Gathering information from third-party sources such as research institutes, the seed industry, agricultural departments, etc.
• Identify risks to crop estimates by developing scenarios and assessing their impact on yields, considering factors such as weather, pests, diseases, input costs, and labor availability.
• Closely monitor weather developments and long-term forecasts to update production estimates.
• Analyze trends, evaluate behaviors, and draw well-supported conclusions.
• Conduct detailed cost of production and gross margin studies.
• Regularly monitor crop development using agronomic and statistical tools.
• Apply strong analytical thinking to detect errors, identify root causes, and make corrections.
• Collaborate effectively within the team to ensure collective objectives are met.
• Communicate findings clearly through comprehensive and well-structured crop tour reports.


What Skills will make you successful


  1. Strong working knowledge in MS office, Tableau and other data representation tools
  2. Very possess strong analytical skills.
  3. Business presentation skills in English (written and spoken)
  4. Willing to travel upcountry on regular basis for crop tours and to supervise the implementation of crop estimation methodology.

Additional Requirements:


  • Willingness to travel extensively to rural locations.
  • Strong logical reasoning and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Educational background in Mathematics or Statistics is preferred.

Qualifications

Education:


Graduation or Post‑Graduation in Agriculture, Agri‑Business, Agricultural Economics, or related fields.
