About the Position:



The Hitachi Rail SRS RAMS Function ensures proper implementation of the Hitachi Rail SRS RAMS Policy in accordance with company and industry specific standards and best practices, provides support to enable SRS to execute its business, provides governance and guarantees segregation of duties with the aim of ensuring the safety of the solutions developed and deployed by Hitachi Rail SRS and compliance to safety principles, industry specific standards and best practices for the development and deployment of safety-critical systems.



The RAMS Manager / System Assurance Manager coordinates the project and Product RAMS activities with SRS Business Segment RAMS so that the solutions (whether for testing or deployment to a customer for trial operations or revenue) are safe for their intended scope and purpose and is responsible to demonstrate that the solutions comply with the relevant processes, policies, legislation, standards and regulations.




Key Accountabilities:



  • Ensure delivery of transportation solution systems in compliance with RAMS guidelines and quality standards, and in accordance with time and budget constraints
  • Provide support for RAMS/System Assurance Planning, including, Safety Management system development, Project Safety / RAMS plan development, Operational Safety / RAMS plan development, Safety Management System implementation.
  • Ensure Safety Case development and RAM parameters performance demonstration
  • Ensure delivery of project RAMS analysis and documents at system and subsystem level in cooperation with the other technology functions, Operation & Maintenance and external suppliers.
  • Undertaking and assessment of Qualitative and Quantitative risk assessment
  • Implementation and checking of detailed analysis including, FMECA, FTA / ETA, Root Cause Analysis, Reliability / Availability modelling
  • Ensure that subsystems suppliers are provided with unambiguous RAMS requirements and minimize supplier turnaround time for delivery of subsystem RAMS analysis and ensure V&V evidence.
  • Interface with the subsystem and systems engineering disciplines (Track, Traction Power, MEP, Rolling Stock, Operator & Maintainer etc.) and to participate at the completion of issues addressing, safety, certification, operational response, technical issues, failures and mitigations
  • Ensure development, improvement and implementation of System RAMS standard processes
  • Provide technical support to RAMS Head for management and interface of Independent Safety Assessor, Employer and External Authorities
  • Ensure the provision of schedule and cost progress to relevant RAMS Manager
  • Ensure the provision of RAMS requirements, if any, and the Hazard Log to the relevant Product and Signalling RAMS Engineers
  • Prepares and presents Project RAMS Management Dashboard to management on a regular basis, monitors technical safety KPIs and proactively manages the closure of the actions
  • Supports capitalization activities for the project and department as well as Lessons Learned

Key Experience Preferred:



  • Candidates should be able to demonstrate a broad knowledge across railway Signaling systems, train control systems, fixed and moving block Signaling principles, relay-based and/or computer-based interlocking design aspects and operations with specialist in Signalling & Train Control (CBTC or Interlocking)
  • Comprehensive knowledge of International System assurance standards (CENELEC, IEC, IEEE, MIL), best practices, safety methods and techniques (HAZID, HAZOP, PHA, SHA, OSHA, FTA, FMEA/FMECA, FSA) and hazard management
  • Understanding of Systems Engineering Concepts such as decomposition/deriving requirements, traceability Matrix and able to extract technical, project, and functional requirements from tender documents, and create system, subsystem, and interface level requirements

Education/Qualifications Preferred:



  • Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) / Bachelor of Technology (B. Tech) or master’s degree in Electronics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering/equivalent or Business domain with demonstrated experience in the technical area
  • At least 15 years of working experience in the Railway or Metro sector, including 5–10 years specializing in RAMS for Signaling and Train Control, or in automation within industries such as aerospace and defense
  • Have managed the systems assurance of at least one railway project of similar nature
  • Have success track records for handling system assurance management in accordance with EN 50126, EN 50128 and EN 50129 for Metro and Railway Projects
  • Good understanding of systems engineering, software engineering and functional safety
  • Detailed knowledge of system safety lifecycle, safety design concepts and risk analysis
  • Demonstrated experience with: System Safety, Validation, Safety Planning, Safety Approval and Certification, RAMS Engineering, Software Safety Assessment, Hazard Management, Safety Case
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and coordinate technical staff
  • Strong MS Office skills and Project Management tools & software
  • Good technical writing skills, excellent communication and analytical skills; excellent command of the English language and local language, both written and oral
