Organization: R&D – Surgical Instrumentation (Ophthalmic Medical Devices)
Employment Type: Apprentice / Early Career


JOB PURPOSE


The Apprentice – Product Support Engineering (PSE) role is an entry‑level position designed for fresh engineering graduates to gain hands‑on exposure to ophthalmic medical devices. The apprentice will support PSE team activities related to New Product Development (NPD) and released products, working closely with senior engineers across mechanical, electrical, software, systems, quality, and regulatory functions.


This role focuses on learning engineering processes, design control fundamentals, documentation practices, and cross‑functional collaboration within a regulated medical device environment, including support for post‑launch and sustaining activities.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Support PSE engineers in day‑to‑day engineering and sustaining activities for ophthalmic medical devices
  • Assist with engineering documentation, including change records, technical assessments, summaries, and reports
  • Support design control activities such as requirements traceability, risk documentation updates, and verification evidence organization
  • Participate in engineering change activities (ECOs/ECNs) under guidance from senior engineers
  • Assist in basic analysis of field issues, complaints, or manufacturing observations, including data collection and documentation
  • Support reviews of drawings, BOMs, and component information under supervision
  • Learn and follow quality system and regulatory requirements applicable to medical device development
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams including Mechanical, Electrical, Software, Manufacturing, Quality, and Regulatory functions
  • Develop understanding of product lifecycle concepts, medical device standards, and engineering best practices

QUALIFICATIONS


Required


  • Final‑year student with a BE / BTech degree (Mechanical/Electrical)
  • Basic understanding of engineering fundamentals
  • Willingness to learn and work in a regulated ophthalmic medical device environment
  • Good written and verbal communication skills

Preferred (Nice to Have)


  • Awareness of product development or quality processes
  • Basic knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint, or similar tools
