Job Summary:

The Purchase Engineer is responsible for sourcing, evaluating, negotiating, and procuring materials, components, equipment, and services required for manufacturing or project operations. The role requires a combination of technical expertise and procurement skills to ensure quality materials are purchased at competitive prices and delivered on time.


Key Responsibilities:
Vendor Development & Management
  • Identify, evaluate, and onboard new suppliers and vendors.
  • Maintain and update the Approved Vendor List (AVL).
  • Conduct supplier performance evaluations and audits.
  • Develop long-term relationships with key suppliers.
  • Ensure supplier compliance with company quality and delivery standards.
Procurement Operations
  • Raise and process Purchase Orders (POs) as per requirements.
  • Coordinate with production, stores, planning, and engineering departments for material requirements.
  • Monitor order status and ensure timely delivery of materials.
  • Resolve supply chain disruptions and procurement-related issues.
  • Maintain procurement records and documentation.
Technical Evaluation
  • Review technical drawings, specifications, and Bills of Materials (BOM).
  • Source technically compliant materials and components.
  • Coordinate with engineering and quality teams for technical approvals.
  • Evaluate alternative materials and suppliers for cost and performance improvements.
Cost Control & Negotiation
  • Negotiate pricing, delivery schedules, payment terms, and contracts.
  • Prepare techno-commercial comparison statements.
  • Conduct market research and price benchmarking.
  • Achieve cost reduction targets through value engineering and strategic sourcing.
  • Analyze procurement trends and recommend cost-saving opportunities.
Inventory & Coordination
  • Monitor stock levels to prevent shortages and excess inventory.
  • Coordinate with stores for material receipt and inspection.
  • Ensure proper inventory planning and replenishment.
  • Support project teams with procurement planning and execution.
Documentation & Reporting
  • Maintain procurement records, contracts, quotations, and supplier agreements.
  • Prepare purchase reports, MIS reports, and procurement analytics.
  • Ensure compliance with company procurement policies and procedures.
Qualifications:
  • BE / B.Tech / Diploma in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Production Engineering, or related field.
  • Additional certification in Supply Chain Management or Procurement is an advantage.
Experience:
  • 2–8 years of experience in Purchase, Procurement, Vendor Development, or Supply Chain functions.
  • Experience in manufacturing, engineering, fabrication, automotive, or industrial sectors preferred.
