The opportunity
The Production Engineer - Mechanical at Hitachi, Ltd. will play a critical role in optimizing manufacturing processes, improving efficiency, and ensuring the high-quality production of mechanical components and systems. This role involves applying mechanical engineering principles to enhance production lines, reduce waste, and implement innovative solutions.
How you'll make an impact
Design, develop, and optimize manufacturing processes for mechanical components and assemblies, focusing on efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and quality.
Analyze production data to identify bottlenecks, areas for improvement, and implement corrective actions.
Collaborate with design engineering teams to ensure manufacturability of new products and provide feedback on design for manufacturing (DFM).
Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and process documentation.
Select, install, and troubleshoot manufacturing equipment, tools, and machinery, ensuring optimal performance and uptime.
Conduct root cause analysis for production issues, including quality defects, equipment failures, and process deviations, and implement permanent solutions.
Lead or participate in continuous improvement initiatives using methodologies such as Lean, Six Sigma, and Kaizen.
Monitor and report on key production metrics, including yield, cycle time, and machine utilization.
Ensure compliance with safety regulations, quality standards (e.g., ISO), and environmental guidelines in all production activities.
Train and mentor production staff on new processes, equipment operation, and quality control procedures.

Your background
Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a production engineering or manufacturing engineering role, preferably within a high-volume manufacturing environment.
Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles, materials science, and manufacturing processes (e.g., machining, fabrication, assembly, welding, casting).
Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, CATIA) for reviewing designs and creating fixtures.
Experience with process improvement methodologies (Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma) and relevant tools.
Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex mechanical and process issues.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team environment.
Familiarity with quality management systems (QMS) and relevant industry standards.
Experience with PLC programming, robotics, or automation systems is a plus.
