About this role :
The Cloud Center of Excellence (COE) is responsible for developing Gartner’s capabilities in automating and streamlining IT infrastructure processes and DevOps tasks while improving Gartner’s self-service capabilities using public cloud platforms and open-source technologies.
As a Principal Architect and People Manager within the Cloud COE Team, you will play a dual role: serving as an expert contributor in cloud architecture and automation, while also providing leadership and management to a team of talented cloud engineers and architects. You will be responsible for developing Gartner’s capabilities in automating and streamlining IT infrastructure processes and DevOps tasks, improving self-service capabilities, and fostering a high-performing, collaborative team environment. This team, with broad and expert knowledge across technology stacks and architectural patterns, values knowledge sharing and unified group strategy. You will provide leadership, innovation, timely delivery, and the ability to articulate business value—both as an individual contributor and as a manager.
What you will do:
12+ years of hands-on experience in AWS services architecture and governance.
Lead, mentor, and manage a team of cloud engineers and architects, providing guidance, performance feedback, and professional development opportunities.
Drive cloud native and designed-for-failure architectures across the enterprise.
Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement within the team.
Set clear goals and expectations, conduct regular 1:1s, and facilitate team meetings to ensure alignment with organizational objectives.
Comfortable working with distributed teams and evangelizing the benefits of cloud and automation.
Strong expertise in leveraging a wide variety of open-source technologies.
Automation is in your DNA—automate wherever possible, ensuring enterprise-grade scale and security is built into your automation.
Develop self-service capabilities so consumers can use the service without requiring manual action.
Create and maintain documentation of enterprise infrastructure topology and system configurations.
Serve as an escalation point for internal support staff to resolve issues and provide technical leadership.
Coordinate with internal staff and schedule maintenance activities, including upgrades.
Work with the DevOps Engineering team to build/use automation tools to provide a fast, compliant list of cloud operations.
Work closely with App Dev teams to provision and manage cloud infrastructure.
Architect, implement, and oversee security policy, monitoring, guidelines, and compliance for our Cloud Services.
Create and manage monitoring and alerting processes and procedures to ensure actionable alerts are generated, operated on, and lead to problems being eliminated before impacting customers.
Optimize cloud platform billing by right-sizing instances and managing reserved instances.
Focus on building automation to promote platform hygiene and operational excellence.
Participate in recruitment, onboarding, and retention efforts to build a world-class cloud team.
What you will need:
Experience working on AWS required; preferred experience with multi-cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP).
Experience architecting solutions in a complex, globally distributed infrastructure.
Expertise with both Linux and Windows technologies and their use in delivering secure, highly available, mission-critical enterprise-class solutions.
Demonstrable experience delivering automation and other optimization techniques to modernize infrastructure.
Experience working in a continuous delivery environment.
Experience managing and implementing cloud architectures in a DevOps/Agile methodology.
Experience facilitating incident management and system recovery efforts.
Experience with operating system scripting such as Ansible/Packer, programming languages, and agile project management practices.
Proven ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, iterative development environment.
Prior experience managing technical teams, including performance management, coaching, and team development.
Who you are :
MS or BS degree in computer science or related focus, or equivalent experience.
12+ years of experience in Software and/or Infrastructure, with a desired 10+ years in relevant cloud, automation, and orchestration.
Knowledge of Agile approaches to software development and ability to put key Agile principles into practice to deliver solutions incrementally.
Knowledge of workflows, publishing, analytics, portal, mobile, big data, cloud, and other leading-edge technologies.
Excellent analytical thinking, interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills with strong ability to influence both IT and business partners.
Ability to prioritize and manage work to critical project timelines in a fast-paced environment.
Demonstrated experience in people management, team leadership, and fostering a positive team culture.
