Job description

Power Electronics Design Engineer – Traction Converter (P10)

Role overview

As a Power Electronics Design Engineer, you will be responsible for the detailed design, development, and validation of high-performance power electronic components and subsystems used in traction converter for EV power trains. You need to translate system-level requirements into schematics, prototypes, and production-ready designs, playing a key role in bringing cutting-edge power electronics solutions to life.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop power conversion circuits and modulesfor traction inverters, gate drive and protection circuits) based on system-level specifications and requirements.
  • Perform detailed schematic capture, PCB layout guidance, and component/device selection for high-efficiency power circuits.
  • Perform simulation, analysis, and optimization of power stages, switching topologies, thermal performance, and EMI/EMC characteristics, filter design using tools such as LTspice, PLECS, and MATLAB/Simulink and hardware testing to validate designs.
  • Design:
    • High-voltage DC-AC traction inverter
    • DC-DC converters in vehicle platforms
    • Semiconductor selection (SiC MOSFET / IGBT modules)
    • Gate driver circuit design (dv/dt immunity, Miller clamp, short-circuit protection)
    • Switching loss & conduction loss modelling
    • Thermal modelling and cooling strategy definition
    • Magnetics and busbar design optimization
  • Optimize design for motor control algorithms, various drive cycles like WLTP, MIDC
  • Support EMI/EMC mitigation, thermal management, and protection strategy implementation.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (firmware, mechanical, testing, manufacturing) to ensure seamless integration and validation of designs.
  • Provide inputs for concept design, packaging and development of the product.
  • Support prototype bring-up, lab testing, and power bench measurements while driving root cause analysis and iterative debugging during validation, field trials, and production ramp-up
  • Develop test jigs for the testing of the products.
  • "Generate and maintain comprehensive technical documentation—including schematics, BOMs, layout files, design reports, validation records, and change logs—to ensure traceability and design integrity throughout the development lifecycle
  • Support and participate in design reviews, DFMEA/DFM activities, and failure analysis investigations, contributing to the refinement of design standards and continuous improvement of engineering practices
  • Ownership of design deliverables with strong communication skills, fosters effective collaboration across multidisciplinary teams, and maintains a commitment to continuous learning and engineering excellence.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • M.Tech in Power Electronics & drives or related discipline
  • 5 – 10+ years of hands-on experience in power electronics design, preferably in drives or EVs with Power rating of 10kW and above
  • Demonstrate in-depth expertise in power conversion topologies, high-voltage design practices, magnetic component design, switching devices (IGBTs, MOSFETs, SiC/GaN) selection and advanced gate drive techniques.
  • Converter Hardware testing experience.
  • Experience with embedded control integration and analog/digital interface design.
  • Proficiency in design tools such as Cadence/Altium Designer (or equivalent), LTspice, PSIM, MATLAB/Simulink, and thermal/EMI simulation platforms.
  • Familiarity with hardware debugging tools including oscilloscopes, power analyzers, and thermal cameras
  • Well-versed in EMI/EMC compliance, thermal management strategies, protection schemes, and safety and regulatory requirements across component and system-level design
  • ·        Experience with high-power, high-frequency switching applications and thermal/EMC mitigation strategies.
  • ·        Knowledge of ISO 26262 (ASIL C/D preferred) requirements.
  • Understand the real work requirements

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in high-reliability industrial applications automotive power train.
  • Expertise in:
    • 400V–1000V HV systems
    • SiC/IGBT-based traction inverters
    • AC-DC and DC-DC automotive converters
    • Motor drives and control
  • Knowledge of AUTOSAR-based system integration
  • Experience with drive cycle analysis and efficiency optimization
  • Proficiency in simulation tools (MATLAB/Simulink, PLECS, LTspice)
  • Strong hands-on lab debugging capability
  • ·        Familiarity with model-based design tools and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing environments.
  • Self-driven, detail-oriented engineer with strong technical documentation, problem-solving skills, collaborative mind-set.
