Role Overview

The Manager - Automation will lead enterprise-wide automation, Industry 4.0, and smart manufacturing initiatives across our plants. This role is responsible for architecting and deploying automation systems, driving IT–OT integration, and leading cross-functional programs that enhance operational efficiency, production visibility, and digital transformation maturity.
The ideal candidate brings strong technical expertise in automation/IIoT, global project leadership experience, and a proven track record of delivering automated machinery, robotics systems, and data-driven manufacturing platforms.


Key Responsibilities1. Automation Strategy & Program Leadership
  • Develop and execute automation and digital transformation roadmaps aligned with business objectives.
  • Lead multi-site automation deployments, including machine automation, robotics, IIoT platforms, and smart manufacturing systems.
  • Drive end-to-end execution of automation projects (Concept → Design → Integration → Commissioning → Handover).
  • Establish governance models, KPIs, and reporting structures for automation programs.
2. Technology Architecture & IT–OT Integration
  • Architect solutions involving OPC-UA, MQTT, PLC systems, SCADA, MES connectivity, Data Historians, and Digital Twin models.
  • Ensure seamless integration between shop-floor systems (OT) and enterprise applications (IT).
  • Collaborate with vendors and internal engineering teams on control-system design, microservices/API integration, and cloud/edge architectures.
3. Smart Manufacturing & Industry 4.0 Enablement
  • Deploy OEE monitoring systems, machine data visualization dashboards, and real-time production analytics.
  • Lead adoption of Industry 4.0 capabilities such as predictive insights, automated workflows, digital floor planning, and connected factory platforms.
  • Drive performance improvements in throughput, cycle time, quality, and productivity through automation solutions.
4. People Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Manage and mentor automation engineers and cross-regional SMEs across engineering, IT, and manufacturing teams.
  • Work with global stakeholders, plant heads, and CXO-level leadership to define requirements and ensure delivery alignment.
  • Ensure effective communication, risk management, and stakeholder engagement across multi-site programs.
5. Vendor & Financial Management
  • Lead vendor strategy, contract negotiations, and performance management for automation suppliers and integrators.
  • Oversee budgets, cost optimization initiatives, and CAPEX planning for automation investments.
  • Track project financials, risks, and ROI improvements with data-driven insights.
6. Quality, Compliance, & Operational Excellence
  • Implement Lean/Continuous Improvement practices and drive automation-based process optimizations.
  • Ensure adherence to safety standards, regulatory requirements, and engineering quality frameworks.
  • Conduct RCA, risk assessments, and ensure audit readiness for automation and digital systems.
Required Skills & CompetenciesTechnical Expertise
  • Strong knowledge of PLCs, robotics, machine automation, and industrial control systems.
  • IIoT protocols & IT–OT technologies: OPC-UA, MQTT, SCADA, MES, Kepware, Digital Twin, Data Historian.
  • Experience in cloud/edge platforms such as Azure IoT, Siemens MindSphere (preferred).
  • Proficiency with engineering tools (SolidWorks, CATIA, AutoCAD, Creo) is an advantage.
Analytical & Business Skills
  • Ability to define KPIs, track OEE improvements, and deliver measurable business outcomes.
  • Strong problem-solving, risk management, and decision-making capabilities.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical / Automobile / Electrical / Electronics / Mechatronics Engineering (or equivalent).
  • PMP certification (preferred / added advantage).
  • 10–15+ years of experience in automation, industrial engineering, IIoT, or smart manufacturing programs.
