Job description

Who We Are

At Kyndryl, we run and reimagine the mission-critical technology systems that drive advantage for the world’s leading businesses.  We are at the heart of progress; with proven expertise and a continuous flow of AI-powered insight, enabling smarter decisions, faster innovation, and a lasting competitive edge. For our people—Kyndryls—that means doing purposeful work that powers human progress. Join us and experience a flexible, supportive environment where your well-being is prioritized and your potential can thrive.

The Role

Key ResponsibilitiesCommunications Server (VTAM & TCP/IP)
  • Configure, maintain, and optimize VTAM definitions (APPL, LUs, logmodes, major/minor nodes), EE/High‑speed links as applicable, and session management for critical subsystems.
  • Engineer and tune z/OS TCP/IP stacks: stacks parms, interfaces/OSA, routing, VIPA/DVIPA, Sysplex Distributor/WLM integration, HiperSockets (where applicable), packet tracing, and diagnostics.
  • Implement and troubleshoot TN3270 server configurations, including port management, SSL/TLS enablement, session pooling, and workstation/client interoperability.
Managed File Transfer & Secure Connectivity
  • Support Connect:Direct (NDM): node configuration, Secure+ parameters, performance tuning, checkpoint/restart, and partner onboarding.
  • Configure and support FTP/FTPS/SFTP/SFTPS services on z/OS, including TLS/SSH ciphers, certificates/keys, SAF keyrings, user authentication, exits, and logging.
  • Own Policy Agent (PAGENT) configurations for IPSec and AT‑TLS policies; implement application‑aware TLS enablement and certificate rotation in partnership with Security.
Monitoring, Operations & Troubleshooting
  • Use NetView/SA to automate message handling, operator commands, resource start/stop, and recovery actions for network services.
  • Employ MainView or Omegamon to monitor availability, response times, and resource utilization; set thresholds/alerts and drive incident response.
  • Perform advanced diagnostics (packet trace, IPCS traces for TCP/IP, VTAM traces, console/SYSLOG review); lead root‑cause analysis and permanent corrective actions.
Governance, Change & Documentation
  • Create and maintain network runbooks, standards, and configuration baselines (TCPIP profiles, VTAM members, TN3270 parms, Policy Agent rules).
  • Prepare well‑formed change records with risk analysis, validation plans, and back‑out procedures; participate in CABs.
  • Collaborate with Security on vulnerability remediation, cipher/hardening changes, and compliance evidence.
Reliability, DR & Performance
  • Engineer high‑availability configurations (Sysplex Distributor, dynamic VIPA, redundancy/failover paths).
  • Participate in DR/Recovery tests ensuring communications stack, TN3270, and file transfer services are restored and validated.
  • Analyze performance data to reduce latency, eliminate bottlenecks, and improve throughput for application traffic and file transfers.

Who You Are

  • 12+ years working with z/OS Communications Server (VTAM & TCP/IP) and TN3270 in enterprise environments.
  • Proven experience supporting Connect:Direct/NDM, FTP/FTPS, SFTP/SFTPS, and Policy Agent (AT‑TLS/IPSec) configurations end‑to‑end.
  • Hands‑on with NetView/SA for operational automation and with MainView or Omegamon for monitoring and diagnostics.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills: TCP/IP traces, VTAM traces, packet analysis, certificate/crypto issues, authentication/SAF integrations.
  • Proficiency with z/OS operations (JES2, SDSF, console, RACF integrations) and change governance in regulated environments.
  • Solid understanding of TLS/SSL, SSH, PKI, and SAF keyring management on z/OS.
Preferred / Nice to Have
  • Experience with Sysplex networking constructs (Sysplex Distributor, DVIPA), HiperSockets, EE, and VIPA policies.
  • Familiarity with automation scripting (REXX, NetView pipelines/command lists) for operational tasks.
  • Exposure to firewall/proxy integrations, DNS, SMTP on z/OS, and load balancing for TN3270 or IP workloads.
  • Performance tuning for Connect:Direct (session concurrency, buffer sizes, compression, Secure+ ciphers).
Core Competencies
  • Analytical problem‑solving under time pressure; strong triage and RCA discipline.
  • Clear written and verbal communication with Infra, App, Security, and Vendor teams.
  • Ownership, attention to detail, and documentation rigor.
  • Bias for automation, reliability, and security‑by‑design.
Success Measures (KPIs)
  • Availability & MTTR: Reduced incidents/outages; faster recovery through automation and clear runbooks.
  • Throughput & Latency: Improved performance for TN3270 sessions, application flows, and file transfers.
  • Change Quality: High change success rate; minimal emergency/back‑outs.
  • Security & Compliance: Timely cipher/hardening updates; clean audit results.
  • Operational Efficiency: Reduction in manual tasks via NetView/SA automation; proactive monitoring thresholds.
