Leidos is seeking a Lead Substation Physical Engineer to join our team in Pune, India. As a Lead Substation Physical Engineer, you will be involved in:


  • Perform conceptual and detailed HV and MV Substation Physical/Electrical design for medium to large scale utilities/substations (including basic layout, electrical arrangement, one line, three-line drawings, plan-section, grounding, AC and DC system drawings)
  • Perform advanced engineering studies and calculations
  • Perform Quality Control reviews on medium to large substation physical design projects
  • Create and review bill of materials for substation physical projects
  • Develop and review proposals, and scopes of work for substation physical projects
  • Develop and provide advanced technical presentations to the team to assist with staff technical development
  • Be involved in client interaction (including site visits) with a drive for customer satisfaction
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to junior engineers
  • Possess excellent communication skills and the ability to interact with the internal teams and clients to meet project objectives

What Sets You Apart (Background Requirements):


  • 4+ years of prior relevant experience.
  • Bachelor of Science Engineering discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil or Industrial). Additional relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Leadership experience in executing substation projects
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to interact with the internal team and clients to meet project needs.
  • Ability to lead bids and proposal effort for utility clients
  • Ability to perform quality control checks on substation design projects.
  • Act as a supervisor for one to six direct reports
  • Ability to read and design substation physical drawings such as one-line drawings, three-line drawings, plan-section drawings, foundation, grounding drawings.
  • Ability to read and design substation protection and control drawings such as one-line drawings, three-line drawings, AC/DC schematic drawings and wiring design
  • Ability to create and check bill of materials for substation physical
  • Act as a key contributor to the development of substation physical application documents to define design scope, philosophies, methodologies, and criteria for medium and high-voltage substation projects.
  • Experience with grounding studies/lightning protection and lighting studies.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Master’s degree in related field
  • Experience with QA/QC
  • Working knowledge of protection and control design
  • Experience with BUS calculations.
  • Experience with WinIGS or CDEGS
  • Experience with SDS AutoCAD Electrical software.
