Job Description – Lead Estimator (HCI P&E)
Role Summary
The Lead Estimator is responsible for leading complex estimation and proposal development activities while ensuring high-quality, compliant and competitive submissions. The role plays a critical position in enabling global HCI P&E readiness on NPIs, UOP collaboration, and assigned cross-functional initiatives. This position contributes to standardization, governance and scalability of estimation practices across the global P&E community.
Key Responsibilities
1. Proposal Issuing
- Carry out RFQ/tender review, scope definition, solution design, costing and end-to-end proposal preparation for standard and non-standard solutions.
- Collaborate with Sales, Operations, Engineering and other stakeholders to define optimal technical and commercial solutions.
- Lead proposal planning, including resource definition, deliverables and timelines.
- Coordinate internal governance processes (KOM, reviews, R&O, approvals).
- Develop cost estimates using internal toolsets and ensure high quality, compliance, and consistency of proposals.
- Guide and support estimators in preparation and delivery of proposals.
- Lead or support pricing strategy, approval documentation and stakeholder alignment.
2. New Product Introduction (NPI)
- Lead and drive HCI Proposal & Estimation readiness for New Product Introductions (NPI) across the global P&E community.
- Ensure structured education, enablement, and knowledge transfer to the P&E team on new products and estimation methodologies.
- Collaborate with Product Managers, Pricing Leaders and P&E Excellence teams to develop, standardize and deploy NPI P&E tools (e.g. WBS, SOF, proposal templates, scope checklists).
- Own validation and testing of NPI estimation tools and templates to ensure accuracy, usability and alignment with business requirements.
- Prepare and deliver regular and ad-hoc reporting on NPI readiness, adoption and performance to global stakeholders.
3. UOP Collaboration Channel
- Supervise (matrix) 1–2 estimators dedicated to UOP opportunities, ensuring high-quality and on-time proposal delivery.
- Lead development and standardization of HCI proposal templates tailored for the UOP channel.
- Contribute to the design and continuous improvement of estimation tools and methodologies specific to UOP opportunities.
- Establish and maintain structured reporting on UOP pipeline, proposal activities and performance metrics.
- Drive alignment and collaboration between HCI and UOP stakeholders to enable successful execution and scaling of UOP opportunities.
4. Additional Contributions
- Support global estimating capability across the P&E community, ensuring consistency, quality, and readiness for strategic initiatives.
- Drive standardization and governance of P&E practices, tools and templates across global teams.
- Contribute to improvement of key performance indicators such as proposal cycle time, quality, and win rate.
Qualifications:
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field.
- Strong experience in proposal and estimation within industrial automation or similar domain.
- Experience working in cross-functional and global environments.
- Proven ability to manage complex proposals and influence stakeholders.
