The Senior HVAC BIM Modeller is responsible for developing, managing, and coordinating detailed 3D BIM models for HVAC systems in construction projects. This role involves working closely with engineers, architects, and other disciplines to ensure accurate design integration, clash-free models, and compliance with project standards.
Key Responsibilities
1. BIM Modelling & Development
- Develop LOD 200–500 HVAC BIM models using Autodesk Revit (MEP)
- Model HVAC systems including:
- Air distribution systems (ducts, fittings, dampers, VAVs)
- Hydronic piping (CHW, condenser water, refrigerant piping)
- HVAC equipment (AHU, FCU, VRF, chillers, pumps, etc.)
- Create parametric families for HVAC components where required
- Ensure models are aligned with design intent, calculations, and specifications
Coordination & Clash Detection
- Perform clash detection using Navisworks Manage/Simulate
- Coordinate HVAC systems with:
- Architectural elements (ceilings, shafts, walls)
- Structural components (beams, slabs, columns)
- Other MEP services (electrical, plumbing, fire protection)
- Lead and participate in BIM coordination meetings
- Propose and implement practical routing solutions to resolve clashes
Shop Drawings & Documentation
- Prepare detailed shop drawings and installation drawings from BIM models
- Generate:
- Duct layouts and sections
- Piping layouts and isometrics
- Equipment schedules and BOQs
- Ensure drawings comply with standards such as ASHRAE and SMACNA
- Maintain drawing registers and revision control
BIM Standards & Quality Control
- Ensure adherence to project-specific BIM Execution Plans (BEP)
- Follow company BIM standards, naming conventions, and workflows
- Conduct QA/QC checks on models and drawings
- Audit models created by junior modellers for accuracy and completeness
Project Coordination & Communication
- Liaise with HVAC design engineers to understand system requirements
- Coordinate with site teams for constructability and installation feasibility
- Support project managers in tracking progress and deliverables
- Attend client meetings and present BIM models when required
Advanced BIM & Digital Integration
- Work with cloud platforms such as BIM 360 / Autodesk Construction Cloud
- Integrate BIM with 4D (schedule) and 5D (cost) workflows where applicable
- Support laser scan to BIM workflows (Scan-to-BIM)
- Participate in digital construction initiatives and automation processes
