This is your role Job description- GIS Testing Manager Key Responsibilities: - Testing Operations Management • Lead and manage routine testing activities of GIS products in accordance with applicable standards, customer specifications, and factory procedures. • Develop and monitor daily, weekly, and monthly testing plans aligned with production schedules and business targets. • Ensure availability and optimal utilization of testing equipment, tools, test bays, and manpower. • Monitor testing throughput, turnaround time, and productivity KPIs to achieve operational objectives. Production & Resource Planning • Coordinate with Production, Quality, Engineering, Logistics, and Project Management teams to ensure smooth execution of testing activities. • Plan workforce allocation and shift schedules to support production requirements. • Identify bottlenecks and implement corrective actions to maintain delivery commitments. • Drive capacity planning and resource optimization initiatives. Customer Inspection & Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) • Lead customer inspections and Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) for domestic and international customers. • Act as the primary interface between customers and the testing organization during FAT activities. • Ensure timely closure of customer observations and technical queries. • Support sales and project teams during customer visits and audits. Technical Leadership • Provide technical leadership for: o Power Frequency Tests o Partial Discharge Testing o Mechanical Operation Testing o Interlock Verification o Gas Tightness Testing o Control Circuit Verification o HV Test Equipment Operation • Support troubleshooting of test failures and implementation of corrective actions. • Collaborate with R&D, Engineering, and Quality teams to resolve technical issues. Quality & Compliance • Ensure compliance with relevant standards and internal quality procedures. • Maintain testing records, reports, calibration records, and quality documentation. • Lead internal and external audits and ensure closure of audit findings. • Drive process standardization and best practices across testing operations. Team Leadership & Development • Lead a team of test engineers, supervisors, technicians, and operators. • Conduct regular operational reviews, safety meetings, and performance discussions. • Develop employee competencies through training, coaching, and mentoring. • Maintain skill matrices, succession plans, and development programs. Safety & Laboratory Management' • Ensure compliance with all EHS requirements within the testing area. • Promote safe operation of high-voltage testing equipment and SF6 handling systems. • Lead risk assessments, safety observations, and incident investigations. • Maintain 5S standards and workplace organization. Continuous Improvement • Lead Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and digitalization initiatives within testing operations. • Monitor KPIs and implement actions to improve productivity, quality, safety, and cost performance. • Drive automation and process improvement projects to enhance testing efficiency. Required Qualifications • B.E./B.Tech in Electrical Engineering. • 10–15 years of experience in GIS manufacturing, high-voltage testing, quality, or production operations. • Strong knowledge of: o GIS technology up to EHV/UHV voltage levels o High-voltage and partial discharge testing o SF6 insulated switchgear o FAT and customer inspection processes o Manufacturing quality systems o Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement Skill sets: • Experience managing testing laboratories for GIS products up to 420 kV / 800 kV / 1200 kV. • Six Sigma Green Belt / Black Belt certification. • Knowledge of SAP and digital manufacturing systems. • Experience handling international customer inspections and audits.
