Role Context




The role is a lead position within the British Council’s global FP&A transformation programme, responsible for designing, developing, testing, and implementing the new FP&A tool solution in partnership with the implementation vendor and wider programme teams. Delivered through an agile, sprint-based approach, the role supports forecasting, budgeting, management reporting, and strategic planning capabilities for Global FP&A. Following implementation, the position will focus on business-as-usual support, continuous improvement, and ongoing platform development.




As part of a high-profile Finance Transformation initiative sponsored by senior leadership, the role plays a critical part in delivering a scalable and efficient planning solution integrated with SAP ECC6.0, Microsoft Azure, and multiple enterprise data sources. The position works closely with global SMEs and stakeholders across FP&A, DEP, Digital & Technology, SAP Master Data, technical support teams, and business planners to support data integration, reporting, and enterprise-wide financial planning capabilities.




Main Responsibilities




The role is responsible for designing, maintaining, and enhancing Anaplan models that support FP&A processes including planning, forecasting, and budgeting. Responsibilities include translating business requirements into scalable model solutions, managing dashboards, master data mappings, integrations, and supporting testing, troubleshooting, documentation, version control, and application support to ensure platform stability and continuous improvement.



The role also works closely with finance teams, FP&A analysts, Digital & Technology, and global stakeholders to deliver enhancements, improve data integration, support users, and drive agile product development initiatives. In addition, the position contributes to training, process design, system optimisation, and ongoing improvement of Anaplan capabilities, while applying strong expertise in FP&A concepts, Excel, Power BI, SAP integrations, and enterprise planning systems.




Role specific skills




  • High quality data skills, including deep understanding of multidimensional and relational structures, attributes, hierarchies etc.
  • Ability to interpret reporting and data gathering requirements into efficient and effectives structures.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in FP&A processes
  • Ability to communicate complex financial concepts to non-technical stakeholders and translate requirements into technical specs. 
  • Strategic thinking with the ability to develop long-term financial planning solutions 
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills 
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Awareness of the latest FP&A tools (can provide training).

Role specific knowledge and experience




Minimum/essential



  • Anaplan Model Builder Level 2 or above.
  • Expertise in development of FP&A modelling tools such as Anaplan.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel
  • Knowledge of financial data structures, governance, and best practices 
  • Experience in automating financial processes and workflows 
  • Strong problem-solving and analytics skills 
  • Experience working with finance teams to translate business needs to technical solutions
  • Significant experience of maintaining stakeholder networks to implement new processes
  • Desire to work in a project environment where each team member has defined responsibilities to deliver analysis, design ideas, and design documentation to a set timeline, working as part of a collaborative team
  • Enthusiasm for collaboration and ability to liaise with and engage with stakeholders from across the British Council in Digital & Technology, Finance (FP&A), Finance (Master data team), and Business Planning Stakeholders too.

Desirable



  • 2 yrs+ Anaplan experience
  • Proven experience in design, build and implementation of FP&A tools
  • Advanced knowledge of Anaplan, Power BI or relevant data visualisation tools.
  • Proven project experience delivering implementation work (design/build/test/deploy – either as a waterfall approach or an agile/sprint approach). 
  • Expertise in driver-based planning tools such as Oracle Hyperion Planning (Essbase), Anaplan, Workday Adaptive Planning, IBM Cognos Planning Analytics (formerly TM1), Pigment, Onestream
  • Building data Integrations, interfaces and mapping
  • Data governance and data stewardship experience
  • Understanding of different data integration tools (e.g. APIs etc)
  • Familiarity with SQL, Python or other scripting language for data manipulation  
  • Anaplan Certified Master Planner certification.

Language Requirements




The British Council systems and global processes operate in English. Written and verbal proficiency in English is required.

  • Higher - Degree qualified

Professional Qualification and Certification




  • Anaplan certifications (Anaplan Model Builder Level 2 or above).
  • Professional finance qualifications such as ACCA, CIMA, CPA, or equivalent.
  • Training or certification in Agile methodologies (Scrum Master, Product Owner)
