In this role, you will support close and reporting processes, partner with Finance and business stakeholders to analyze drivers and variances, and strengthen the control environment through reconciliations, governance, and issue resolution. You will work in a fast-paced, highly collaborative setting with opportunities to improve processes through data and automation, while building deep expertise in financial control and operating discipline.


Job Summary:


As a Financial Controller – Associate within Corporate Sector Controllers, you will be responsible for financial accounting, internal controls, and financial reporting for the Corporate LOBs (ex T/CIO and Private Equity), as well as centrally managed firmwide accounting activities. Corporate Sector Controllers global coverage includes Global Real Estate, Human Resources, Central Technology, Legal, Tax, Compliance, Corporate Responsibility, Communication, Strategy, Regulatory Affairs, Oversight & Control, JPMC Foundation, Corporate Contributions, Sourcing & Procurement, Global Services, Operational Control, Corporate Other, and Corporate Staff Functions.


Within this organization, the Global Technology Controllers team provides controllership support to the technology function across Hardware, Software, Professional Services, and other direct expense lines, and is also responsible for the capitalization of fixed assets.


Job Responsibilities:


  • Drive accurate financial reporting and a strong control environment by recording accruals and prepaids to ensure expenses are recognized in the appropriate period in accordance with US GAAP and JPMorganChase standards, and by providing transparency and governance through regular accrual review meetings with F&BM to confirm completeness and accuracy. 


  • Support fixed asset accounting activities including asset set-up, clearing fixed-asset-related WIP GL balances, and performing impairment reviews. 


  • Ensure balance sheet integrity through Fortress Balance Sheet support, balance sheet reviews with relevant stakeholders, and general ledger attestation via reconciliation and substantiation in line with firmwide GLRS standards. 


  • Perform month-over-month analytical reviews of actual results to validate significant fluctuations and document analytics through estimates, walk-forwards, controller financial reviews, and flash reports. 


  • Partner with P&A, Business Management, and business stakeholders to understand significant contracts and transactions and confirm appropriate accounting treatment, while maintaining compliance with control programs (e.g., User Tools, Record Retention), identifying efficiency opportunities across P&L and balance sheet controls, and analyzing, communicating, and resolving material variances between the general ledger and upstream systems as defined by the line of business.


Required qualifications, skills, and capabilities:


  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) with relevant finance/accounting background.
  • 3+ years of related experience.
  • General ledger experience, including financial reporting and month-end close responsibilities.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to quickly understand complex processing and GL systems, including interrelationships and dependencies.
  • Strong desktop/spreadsheet/database skills.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills; ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, changing environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; comfortable liaising with business stakeholders and risk partners.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain partnerships across product-aligned businesses and corporate finance/treasury/accounting groups.
  • Ability to understand business drivers and influence middle/front office partners to deliver solutions and address business issues.
  • Ability to critically challenge with the goal of identifying control issues.

Preferred Qualifications:


Preferably a CA, CFA, CPA or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
