Background on the Team

The Fixed Income ESG Strategy & Research Team works across MSIM’s Fixed Income group to integrate sustainability across all asset classes. The team is made up of research analysts who provide bottoms-up analysis at the issuer and security level and strategy specialists who provide support on product, regulations, data, reporting and client inquiry.  The members of the team are located across New York, Boston, Washington DC, and London.

Purpose

We are seeking a Fixed Income ESG Analyst to support the firm’s ESG research and investment platform, with a primary focus on managing and coordinating ESG‑related content for client due diligence, Requests for Proposals (RFPs), and other investor communications. This role is designed for a detail‑oriented and highly organized professional who is interested in the intersection of ESG, fixed income investing, and client reporting.

The ideal candidate will bring a strong interest in environmental, social, and governance topics as they relate to fixed income markets, along with the ability to synthesize qualitative and quantitative information across investment, research, and operational teams. They will be comfortable managing workflows, maintaining documentation and response libraries, and supporting the ESG research team with operational and process‑driven tasks that enhance efficiency and consistency. The candidate will thrive in a collaborative, market-oriented buy‑side environment, demonstrate strong written communication skills, and take pride in producing accurate, high‑quality deliverables that support both investment and client objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation, coordination, and timely submission of ESG‑related responses for Requests for Proposals (RFPs), Due Diligence Questionnaires (DDQs), consultant databases, and other investor information requests for fixed income strategies.
  • Maintain and enhance ESG response libraries, templates, and supporting materials to ensure consistency, accuracy, and alignment with firm‑wide ESG practices and fixed income investment processes.
  • Collect, organize, and validate ESG data, issuer‑level information, and qualitative disclosures by partnering with fixed income investment teams, ESG research, compliance, legal, and operations.
  • Monitor and summarize developments in ESG regulation, disclosure standards, and industry frameworks as they relate to fixed income markets and investor expectations.
  • Provide operational and workflow support to the ESG research team, including tracking research deliverables, managing timelines, coordinating inputs, and supporting prioritization across ongoing projects.
  • Assist with the organization, maintenance, and quality control of ESG research materials, issuer assessments, data sources, and internal documentation to improve efficiency and scalability.
  • Support internal ESG reporting, record‑keeping, and process documentation to facilitate audits, internal reviews, and ongoing investor due diligence.
  • Respond to ad hoc ESG‑related client inquiries and support cross‑functional initiatives related to ESG integration within fixed income strategies.
  • Explore opportunities to automate selected functions using AI, including developing and managing agents to carry out these tasks.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business, or related fields in the Sustainability space; Master’s degree a plus.
  • 1 to 3 years of experience in the financial industry, preferably with experience in responsible investment and ESG analysis.
  • Knowledge of fixed income asset classes and investment strategies.
  • Excellent verbal and writing skills in English.
  • Self-motivated, work individually or as part of a team with strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Strong work ethic and positive attitude, able to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines.
  • Advanced MS Office (Word/PowerPoint/Excel) skills; experience with financial tools and databases (e.g., Bloomberg, MSCI) and coding skills a plus.
