Role Purpose:


Structural Engineer will be responsible for leading assigned structural production engineering projects and to develop production packages for Marine and offshore projects in Drydocks World (DDW) offices in India in an efficient and quality manner. The responsibility includes mobilizing, directing, coordinating and exercising authority for planning, organization, leadership and execution of production engineering projects for DDW Dubai.


This position requires extensive experience in Marine, FSPO, Offshore Platform design and construction and integration engineering for both New Build & Conversion projects. 


Structural Engineer will strive for continuous productivity, and quality improvements / enhancements in such a way that received objectives has to be completed with no errors and within the allocated budget.


Designation: Engineer – Structural Production Engineering - Global Service Centre


Base Location: Chennai


Reporting to: GSC Structural Assistant Manager.


Key Role Responsibilities:


  • Coordinate day-to-day activities of the DDW India Engineering office and required collaboration with DDW Dubai offices.


  • Prepare engineering deliverables / man-hour estimate /schedule for structural engineering projects.


  • Plan and formulate structural engineering program and organize project staff according to project requirements in consultation with DDW Dubai engineering team.


  • Coordinate all engineering changes and approvals to meet the requirements received from the DDW Dubai Engineering office.


  • Ensure jobs undertaken by the Department are accomplished in a professional manner and with emphasis on safety, quality, environment & cost effectively. 


  • Monitor progress against project schedules and budget; recommend / approve allocation of resources as required to accomplish goals in coordination with the DDW Dubai engineering office.


  • Follow-up on permanent corrective action plans to resolve any outstanding issues related to quality, production, equipment, tooling, customers, and project deliverables.


  • Recognize, evaluate and identify areas for improvement and implement process improvements for team.


  • Drive continuous improvement of processes, quality and cost to maintain profitability and competitiveness.


  • Promote and enforce a safe and healthy work environment in accordance with applicable legislation and company policies and procedures.


  • Ensure optimum use of department resources, equipment and man-power.


  • Review, develop and implement the structural section processes for continual improvement in consultation with DDW Dubai Engineering office.


  • Assist in interviewing, hiring and training employees as per department/project requirements in coordination with the DDW Dubai Engineering office requirements.


  • Oversee the development and maintenance of staff competence to meet departmental / project objectives.


  • Provide on the job training to the subordinates and a succession plan within the department.


  • Implement and monitor OH&S, Environment and Quality Management System.


  • Responsible for coordinating with DDWD procurement, production and PMT to help with the best TBT (Technical Bid Tabulation) related material delivery condition.


  • Propose and Assist building strategy meetings to ensure that safety and production efficiency are well defined and all established construction sequences to be further elaborated on engineering deliverables as part detail assembly process drawings packages.


  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned by the functional head


Skills & Competencies: 


  • Sound Technical Knowledge in Marine and offshore projects. 


  • Demonstrate understanding and application of management approaches for work direction, motivation, performance management, and disciplinary action.


  • Thorough knowledge in the selection of materials (material codes) based on its standard grades and specifications and as required by the major classification society or standards, such as DNV-GL, ABS, LR, Norsok, BS, EN, ISO, API.


  • Technical review of all materials certificates and properties required for shipbuilding and offshore projects received from vendors.


  • Experience in various structural design standards like EN/DIN/JIS/Norsok/ API, AISC as well as a good understanding of BV, LR, ABS, DNV, and other related industry regulations and standards.


  • Strong background with resolution of technical issues during project engineering and execution phases.


  • Extensive knowledge of structural engineering practices and principles as well as understanding scientific methods of problem solving.


  • Demonstrated ability with cost analysis, engineering design methods, interpersonal skills and the ability to integrate all of these skills to a productive cost-effective result.


  • Excellent program and project management skills with strong document management


  • Knowledge of using engineering 3D model software like, Tekla Structure, Cadmatic, Nestix, Sigma Nest Navisworks Manage, AUTO CAD, Autodesk Recap, HGG Procam, and Rhinoceros 3D.


  • Familiar with local / international legislative requirements


  • Strong presentation, written and verbal skills.


  • Able to manage multiple projects and tasks.


  • Professional/ mature demeanor under stressful conditions


Education & Qualifications:


  • Bachelor/Engineering degree in Naval Architecture/Mechanical Engineering or Technical equivalent.


  • Total of 8 to 12 years relevant experience in shipyard, offshore / Oil & Gas industry in design and production engineering office.


  • Have a minimum of 6 years’ experience with production engineering companies, where hands-on exposure to a wide range of marine and offshore projects can be demonstrated. 


  • Minimum 5 years working experience in shipyard, major production / construction sites and heavy industrial segments.
