This leadership role is ideal for a seasoned database professional with extensive experience in PostgreSQL and MySQL Database Administration , who has successfully built and managed highly available, secure, and scalable database environments.
As the Director of DBaaS, you will define the long-term vision for database infrastructure, lead high-performing DBA teams, and drive modernization initiatives to deliver reliable Database-as-a-Service capabilities across the organization.
You will collaborate with engineering, cloud, DevOps, security, and product teams to ensure database platforms meet the highest standards of performance, resilience, and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities Define and execute the organization's Database-as-a-Service (DBaaS) strategy, aligning database platforms with business and technology objectives.
Lead and mentor a team of senior Database Administrators, Database Engineers, and technical leaders across multiple locations.
Architect, deploy, and manage large-scale PostgreSQL and MySQL database environments supporting mission-critical applications.
Establish best practices for database provisioning, backup and recovery, disaster recovery, replication, high availability, and performance optimization.
Drive database automation initiatives using Infrastructure as Code (IaC), scripting, and orchestration tools to improve operational efficiency.
Ensure database platforms meet stringent security, compliance, governance, and audit requirements.
Develop capacity planning strategies, monitor database health, and optimize resource utilization for maximum performance and availability.
Partner with application development and platform engineering teams to design scalable and resilient database architectures.
Lead database migration, consolidation, and modernization projects, including cloud-native and hybrid database deployments.
Manage incident response, root cause analysis, and continuous service improvement initiatives.
Evaluate emerging database technologies and recommend improvements that enhance scalability, reliability, and cost efficiency.
Define operational KPIs, service-level objectives (SLOs), and performance metrics while driving continuous process improvements.
Required Qualifications 17–25 years of progressive experience in Database Administration, with significant leadership experience managing enterprise database platforms.
Deep expertise in PostgreSQL administration, architecture, replication, clustering, performance tuning, backup and recovery, and security.
Strong hands-on experience as a MySQL DBA , including replication, high availability, failover mechanisms, optimization, and troubleshooting.
Proven experience designing and operating highly available, mission-critical database environments at enterprise scale.
Strong understanding of database lifecycle management, capacity planning, and operational governance.
Experience leading large technical teams, managing cross-functional initiatives, and influencing executive stakeholders.
Expertise in database monitoring, automation, scripting (Shell, Python, or similar), and operational tooling.
Strong knowledge of cloud platforms, virtualization, containerized deployments, and modern infrastructure practices.
Experience implementing disaster recovery strategies and business continuity planning for critical database systems.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
Preferred Qualifications Experience with Database-as-a-Service platforms and cloud-managed database solutions.
Knowledge of Kubernetes, Docker, CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure as Code, and DevOps practices.
Exposure to additional database technologies such as MariaDB, Oracle, SQL Server, MongoDB, or Redis.
Experience managing globally distributed database environments and 24x7 operations.
Familiarity with security frameworks, compliance standards, and enterprise governance policies.
Relevant database, cloud, or infrastructure certifications are highly desirable.
