Key Responsibilities
Subcontract Management
- Identify work packages suitable for subcontracting (fabrication, erection, outfitting support, blasting & painting, insulation, etc.) and ship repair works.
- Prepare scopes of work, technical specifications, BOQs, and tender documents for subcontracts.
- Coordinate with Purchase/Contracts for tendering, evaluation, negotiation, and award of subcontracts.
- Administer subcontract agreements and ensure compliance with contractual terms.
Planning & Execution
- Coordinate with Planning, Production, and Project teams to align subcontract activities with master schedules.
- Monitor subcontractor progress against approved schedules and milestones.
- Ensure availability of drawings, materials, work fronts, and permits for subcontracted works.
Quality Control
- Ensure subcontracted works comply with approved drawings, class rules, statutory requirements, and shipyard quality standards.
- Coordinate inspections with QA/QC, Classification Societies, and Owners’ representatives.
- Address non-conformities and ensure timely corrective actions.
Cost & Commercial Control
- Monitor subcontract costs against budgets and approved BOQs.
- Verify measurements, certify subcontractor bills, and manage variations and change orders.
- Analyze productivity and implement cost-control measures.
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure subcontractors comply with shipyard HSE policies, statutory safety regulations, and environmental norms.
- Conduct safety reviews, toolbox talks, and audits in coordination with the HSE department.
- Enforce safe working practices in dock, berth, workshop, and onboard environments.
Coordination & Communication
- Act as the single point of contact between shipyard teams and subcontractors.
- Conduct regular progress meetings with subcontractors and internal stakeholders.
- Report progress, risks, and issues to senior management with mitigation plans.
Team & Process Management
- Lead and guide the Subcontracts Cell team for new build and ship repair works.
- Develop standard procedures, KPIs, and best practices for subcontract management.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity and quality.
Qualifications & Experience
Education
- Diploma/ Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical / Naval Architecture / Production / Marine / Structural Engineering (or equivalent).
Experience
- 24-30 years of experience in shipbuilding or ship repair.
- Minimum 5 years in managing subcontractors in a shipyard or large marine/industrial project.
