The Mainframe Automation Consultant plays a critical role in designing, implementing, and supporting automation solutions across z/OS environments. This role requires deep expertise in mainframe operations, system automation, and monitoring tools, combined with strong analytical and communication skills. The consultant will work closely with operations, engineering, and project teams to enable efficient and reliable automated system behaviors, ensuring high availability and optimized performance of IBM Z platforms.
.Design, implement, and support automation solutions for z/OS environments using IBM System Automation and NetView.
.Lead and participate in z/OS automation migration projects, ensuring smooth transition and minimal downtime.
.Analyze operational processes and develop REXX scripts and JCL to enhance automation and reduce manual intervention.
.Administer and maintain the System Automation Policy Database (PDB), including updates and customization.
.Provide consulting and advisory support on mainframe automation strategies and best practices.
.Troubleshoot automation-related issues using TSO/ISPF, logs, and automation traces.
.Support system startup, shutdown, recovery, and event-driven automation activities.
.Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate automation solutions with enterprise monitoring frameworks.
.Produce technical documentation, runbooks, and communication materials for stakeholders.
.Evaluate new automation tools and competitive technologies to recommend improvements.
.Knowledge of other IBM Z software related to system operation, configuration, and automation.
.Understanding of z/OS system startup, shutdown, IPL processes, and recovery procedures.
.Experience with SMP/E installation, upgrade, and maintenance processes.
.Familiarity with competing automation and operations tools.
.Exposure to fully automated system configurations on IBM Z platforms.
