Job Overview

1. Job Summary


We are seeking an exceptional Staff Data Engineer to provide technical leadership within our data organization. This role is for a hands-on expert with deep knowledge of database architecture, advanced SQL, and sophisticated data modeling. As a Staff Engineer, you will be a key technical authority, responsible for designing, building, and optimizing the foundational data structures that power our enterprise applications and analytics platforms. You will set technical direction, mentor other engineers, and tackle our most complex data challenges, ensuring our data ecosystem is scalable, reliable, and performant.


2. Key Responsibilities


  • Technical Leadership & Mentorship: Act as a technical pillar for the data engineering teams. Mentor senior and junior engineers, lead by example with high-quality code, and guide the team in making critical architectural decisions.
  • Data Modeling & Architecture: Design and implement conceptual, logical, and physical data models for large-scale data warehouses, data marts, and OLTP systems. Define the architecture for data storage and processing systems.
  • Database Design & Optimization: Lead the design and optimization of relational and non-relational databases. Write and tune complex SQL queries to ensure high performance and efficiency. Troubleshoot and resolve critical database performance issues.
  • Data Pipeline Development: Architect and build robust, scalable, and reliable data pipelines to ingest, transform, and load data from a wide variety of sources, with a focus on PySpark.
  • Data Governance & Quality: Champion data quality and governance best practices. Design and implement frameworks for data validation, integrity checks, and metadata management to ensure data is accurate and trustworthy.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with software engineers, product managers, data scientists, and business stakeholders to understand data needs and deliver robust solutions.
  • Innovation & Strategy: Evaluate and recommend new data technologies, tools, and methodologies. Drive the technical roadmap and long-term strategy for the data engineering domain.

3. Required Qualifications


  • Experience: Extensive experience in data engineering or database development, with a proven track record of technical leadership in a senior or principal role.
  • SQL Expertise: Expert-level proficiency in SQL, including complex query writing, performance tuning, and advanced analytical functions.
  • Data Modeling: Deep, hands-on experience in data modeling, including dimensional modeling (star/snowflake schemas), normalization/denormalization, and data vault concepts.
  • Database Systems: In-depth knowledge of multiple database systems, such as Teradata, Oracle, PostgreSQL, and/or NoSQL databases.
  • ETL/ELT Development: Strong experience in designing and building data pipelines using various ETL/ELT tools and frameworks.
