Job description

Some careers shine brighter than others.

If you’re looking for a career that will help you stand out, join HSBC and fulfil your potential. Whether you want a career that could take you to the top, or simply take you in an exciting new direction, HSBC offers opportunities, support and rewards that will take you further.

HSBC is one of the largest banking and financial services organisations in the world, with operations in 64 countries and territories. We aim to be where the growth is, enabling businesses to thrive and economies to prosper, and, ultimately, helping people to fulfil their hopes and realise their ambitions.

We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Associate Director, Solution Architecture.

In this role, you will:

  • Engage regularly with CIB CDO, business users and SMEs to rapidly understand business requirements, priorities and constraints.
  • Translate business needs into clear functional requirements and solution designs aligned to the technology strategy and roadmap.
  • Produce end-to-end technical and logical designs for products and features, addressing architectural risks, issues and technical debt.
  • Communicate designs effectively to development teams and provide ongoing support to unblock delivery and ensure correct implementation.
  • Partner with Production Support to ensure solutions are operationally ready, well understood, and readily supportable post-release.
  • Provide technical leadership across the project lifecycle, including reviewing/validating peer designs and ensuring decision traceability.
  • Promote solution architecture best practices, standards, tools and knowledge sharing, advocate for process improvements and better ways of working.
  • Drive governance and assurance: manage design activity backlog through agile delivery, ensure timely architecture assessments, and obtain appropriate approvals for deviations from reference architectures/policies; develop PoCs where needed to validate options and inform roadmaps.

To be successful, you will:

  • 5+ years’ Solution Architecture experience in large, complex, geographically dispersed organisations (matrix management, multiple time zones).
  • Strong logical thinking and abstraction skills; able to derive reusable architectural patterns from technical solutions.
  • Proven leadership with the ability to articulate, present, and gain approval for solutions with both IT and business stakeholders.
  • Hands-on experience with streaming technologies (e.g., Kafka, Flink, Pub/Sub) and event-driven design.
  • Solid integration and data engineering knowledge: REST APIs, microservices, data warehousing, ETL/data integration, and SQL/NoSQL databases.
  • Broad platform experience across cloud (GCP/Azure/AWS), big data (BigQuery, Hadoop, Spark, Databricks), and containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes incl. IKP/GKE).
  • Strong analytical/problem-solving capability: challenges designs/decisions, resolves complex issues, and ramps up quickly on new data landscapes.
  • Excellent communication (written/virtual), planning and time management; commercially aware and confident working independently to deadlines.

You’ll achieve more when you join HSBC.
