Position Overview

Northern Trust is seeking a highly skilled Specialist – Business Analyst with a Business Architecture emphasis to support Modernization initiatives within the Client Onboarding & Lifecycle Management (COLM) capability.  This role is critical to shaping and aligning business processes, capabilities, and technology solutions to deliver a seamless client onboarding experience and support strategic transformation initiatives.

In this role, you will work closely with Product Management, Compliance/KYC, Technology, Operations, Risk, and Architecture partners to define business capabilities, assess current-state processes, identify gaps, and translate regulatory and strategic objectives into clear business models, process designs, and functional requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Business Architecture & Discovery

  • Partner with Product Owners, Product Managers, Compliance/KYC, Technology, Operations, Risk, and Architecture teams to define and document business architecture components supporting KYC modernization, including business capabilities, value streams, and operating model impacts.
  • Translate strategic and regulatory objectives into capability models, conceptual process flows, and functional decompositions that guide solution direction and prioritization.
  • Assess current-state KYC processes and data flows to identify gaps, redundancies, risks, and opportunities for simplification and standardization.
  • Ensure alignment between business processes, data concepts, and technology architecture, supporting scalability, auditability, and regulatory compliance.

Business Analysis & Delivery Enablement

  • Work closely with subject matter experts across business and technology to capture, analyze, and document business and functional requirements, with an emphasis on KYC and onboarding workflows.
  • Create and maintain key documentation, including business process flows, data dictionaries, operating model artifacts, and traceability documentation.
  • Act as a liaison between business and technology teams to validate requirements, support solution design decisions, and ensure operational readiness.

Collaboration, Governance & Readiness

  • Facilitate stakeholder discussions to drive shared understanding of KYC business needs, constraints, and trade-offs across functions.
  • Participate in and contribute to Agile ceremonies such as backlog grooming, feature and story refinement, sprint planning, and retrospectives, as applicable to initiative phase.
  • Support operational readiness and compliance alignment, ensuring solutions are designed with appropriate controls, handoffs, and governance considerations in mind.

Experience, Knowledge, and Skills

Experience

  • For internal applications - 24 months as Senior Consultant(P3)
  • 5+ years of experience in business analysis, with demonstrated exposure to business architecture, process design, or operating model work, preferably within financial services or a complex regulated environment.
  • Experience supporting client onboarding, KYC, AML, or regulatory-driven transformation initiatives strongly preferred.

Skills & Knowledge

  • Strong understanding of business capability modeling, process mapping, and data flow analysis.
  • Working knowledge of KYC/AML regulations, operational controls, and risk management concepts.
  • Ability to balance strategic discovery with practical execution, adapting depth of analysis to initiative maturity.
  • Proficiency with process and modeling tools (e.g., Visio, BPMN, or similar); familiarity with Agile delivery practices is a plus.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to operate effectively across business and technology teams.
