About the position


Chevron ENGINE has an exciting opportunity for Benchmarking Analyst: Upstream to join the ENGINE Innovation team; this role will be based in Chevron’s office in Bengaluru.


Chevron ENGINE supports global operations, and work hours are aligned to business needs. Standard working hours are 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM or 1:30 PM to 10:30 PM, Monday to Friday. These may evolve based on operational or business requirements.


Upstream Benchmarking Analyst will support Chevron’s ENGINE group by compiling, validating, and analyzing benchmarking data across the upstream business to enable business decisions, including competitive goals setting. This role will focus on collecting financial & operational benchmarking data to support the setting of competitive and realistic targets in areas such as production, operating cost efficiency, and capital productivity. The analyst will collaborate closely with upstream business leads, global stakeholders, and subject matter experts to deliver high-quality benchmarking reports and insights.


Key Responsibilities


  • Collect and validate peer and third-party upstream data (e.g., offshore, shale & tight) from multiple sources, ensuring completeness and accuracy and translating into actionable insights


  • Map peer data into standardized categories and enter data into benchmarking databases


  • Perform quality checks on upstream actuals and business plan data, including de-biasing, analyzing variances, comparing multiple data sources, and following up with relevant stakeholders as required


  • Ensure right data preparation and transformation to enable delivery of structured statistics


  • Compile benchmarks and calculate preliminary pathways for key upstream metrics – including


  • Realized price, unit operating cost, production efficiency, unit development cost, asset retirement cost


  • Understand operational and financial impacts of key metrics


  • Convert key metrics into competitive targets and quantify performance gaps


  • Generate preliminary insights from benchmarking data and identify improvement opportunities for upstream performance


  • Support the development of competitiveness reports focused on upstream activities and metrics


  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to resolve data gaps and validate insights


  • Publish final reports into repositories and support iterative updates as needed


About you


  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Geoscience, Business, Economics, or a related field


  • 5-10 years of industry experience as an operator or through full-service consulting in upstream oil & gas


  • Proficiency in data analysis, benchmarking, or business performance measurement


  • Proficiency in data management, quality control, and variance analysis


  • Familiarity with third-party upstream data sources such as Wood Mackenzie, Rystad, Solomon, or equivalent providers


  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to synthesize large upstream data sets into actionable insights.


  • Advanced fluency in financial analysis, with experience in product economics and financial modelling


  • Experience working with public company data (e.g., SEC reports) to develop insights


  • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate across global team


  • Proven ability to partner with diverse stakeholders to deliver results
