Edelman’s Public & Government Affairs team consists of experienced advisors, including former government officials, political consultants, policy and legislative experts, lawyers, economists, and industry specialists.
Drawing on experience at national, regional, and global levels, they help our clients better understand and effectively engage with governmental and regulatory processes. We support companies in successfully navigating the environment of government, politics, legislation, and public perception in order to build trust and secure success. Our teams are rooted locally while also collaborating across borders, offering regional and global perspectives across North and South America, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and the Asia-Pacific region.
We are looking for an Associate Director Public & Government Affairs (f/m/d) to join our Berlin office at the earliest possible date.
Associate Directors serve as the primary or secondary point of contact for clients and are independently responsible for strategy development. They stay on top of relevant legislative and regulatory issues, advise clients on political positioning opportunities, and support them in their public affairs activities. They actively contribute to new business development and lead pitch teams. Associate Directors report to the Director and manage Account Managers and Account Executives.
What you can expect:
Advising clients on political strategies and political positioning
Serving as the primary or secondary contact on various client projects
Responsibility for the day-to-day management of several client accounts in close collaboration with the Directors and our Managing Director
Actively supporting new business growth and operationally leading pitches, presentations, or other business development initiatives
Independently developing statements, position papers, briefings, and strategic documents
Working closely with other Edelman Germany practices, and especially with the Public Affairs teams in Brussels, London, and Washington, D.C.
Supporting the development of thought leadership pieces and political analyses
Analyzing and monitoring current legislative procedures and political developments at the federal, state, and municipal levels
Representing the Public & Government Affairs practice at industry and networking events in Berlin’s political sphere
Leading and developing junior and mid-level team members, including coaching and guidance
Enthusiasm and motivation to help further build Edelman’s Public & Government Affairs practice in Germany
What you bring:
At least 6 years of proven success in Public Affairs, preferably through experience in a public affairs consultancy, work in parliamentary offices, ministries, or NGOs
An existing working-level network within ministries, the German Bundestag, and political organizations
A proactive mindset, strong curiosity, and a consistently positive attitude
Strong interest in and deep understanding of global geopolitical issues or specific regional policy matters
Excellent client service and communication skills; ability to independently lead projects and communicate effectively with client teams and senior executives by phone, email, and in person
Strong project management and organizational skills
Enjoyment of teamwork, a results-oriented mindset, and the ability to develop efficient processes
Outstanding writing and editorial skills with the ability to produce clear, persuasive, and high-quality content
Digital fluency in using social and digital tools and platforms to support public affairs activities
Strong leadership skills to motivate, inspire, and guide teams
Ability to resolve conflicts constructively within teams or with clients and stakeholders
Very good knowledge of Microsoft Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
Master’s degree
