Job description

Job AdWe’re looking for a Staff Software Engineer to join Procore’s Runtime Platform. In this role, you’ll act as an Observability Ambassador, embedding with product engineering teams to overhaul their observability experience. Your primary goal is to move teams from "blind" to "informed" by implementing OpenTelemetry and ensuring clear, actionable visibility within Honeycomb and Datadog.

As a Staff Software Engineer, you’ll partner with product engineering, Traffic, and Incident Management teams to implement technical "Golden Paths" for telemetry and lead the transition to high-maturity operational standards. Use your expertise in distributed systems, OpenTelemetry, and cross-team collaboration to directly improve Procore's "First to Know" and "Quick to Fix" metrics across the global organization. Help us build a world-class developer experience—Join us today!

This position reports into the Director of Engineering, Platform Services and will be based in our Cairo office. We’re looking for someone to join us immediately.

What you’ll do:
  • AI is central to how we work. You’ll be expected to master generative tools and agentic workflows, moving beyond just using AI to actively building the agentic future of construction

  • Lead the hands-on transition to OpenTelemetry by embedding with product teams to write code, configure collectors, and build performance dashboards.

  • Implement "Golden Paths" for telemetry to ensure central libraries are easily adopted by engineering teams.

  • Review product team architectures to identify observability gaps and develop specific technical plans to fill them.

  • Evangelize observability best practices by leading internal sessions and documenting vendor-specific nuances for Honeycomb and Datadog.

  • Collaborate with Traffic and Incident Management teams to ensure product engineers have the necessary data to resolve incidents independently.

  • Provide high-quality technical support to global teams during the Cairo workday to support Procore’s "Follow-the-Sun" operational model.

  • Develop tools and processes that empower product teams to handle their own service incidents with confidence.

  • Bridge the gap between central platform initiatives and localized product engineering needs.

What we’re looking for:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent experience.

  • 6+ years of software engineering experience with a proven track record of taking projects from concept to production.

  • Practical experience with OpenTelemetry and at least one major observability vendor such as Honeycomb, Datadog, or Grafana/Prometheus.

  • Strong proficiency in Ruby on Rails, Go, or Java, with the ability to adapt quickly to new codebases.

  • Deep passion for distributed systems and a proactive approach to "debugging the system" rather than just the code.

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build trust quickly while embedding with diverse engineering teams.

  • Strong sense of customer empathy and a commitment to improving the "Developer Experience" for peers.
