RidePro is a mature, enterprise web application that transit agencies and employers use to
run Transportation Demand Management (TDM) programs - the services that reduce single-
occupancy vehicle trips by helping commuters share rides, which reduces road congestion
and environmental impacts. It is used by agencies across North America to operate large
vanpool and carpool programs and to meet government reporting requirements. At its core,
RidePro:
• Carpool & vanpool matching - Matches commuters who have similar routes and
schedules into shared rides, using their home/work locations and travel times to
suggest the best matches (this is where the geospatial/GIS side of the product comes
in).
• Vanpool program management - Manages the full lifecycle of vanpools: applications,
vehicle assignments, riders, routes, and regional program rules. Agencies run many
regional programs, each with its own fare structures and policies.
• Fare calculation & billing - Calculates fares based on factors like region, distance,
vehicle type, and program rules - including specialized cases such as toll bridges - and
generates commuter statements and employer billing.
• Incentive programs - Runs commuter rewards: badges, challenges, leaderboards, and
incentive tracking that encourage people to use ride-sharing programs.
• Compliance & reporting - Produces the regulatory and operational reports agencies
depend on, including National Transit Database (NTD) submissions, ridership and
financial reporting.
• Employer & commuter portals - Supports employer accounts, vanpool sponsorship,
and self-service for commuters managing their accounts, trips, and statements.
In short, RidePro is the operational backbone for vanpool/carpool programs. The work is a
mix of maintaining and enhancing a deep, established codebase and building new
features, with an ongoing effort to modernize parts of the system.
