Ramadan 2025 Working Hours in the UAE

In anticipation of Ramadan 2025, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has announced adjusted working hours for government employees to accommodate the holy month's observances.

Federal government working hours

According to the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources (FAHR), the official working hours during Ramadan for ministries and federal entities are as follows:

  • Monday to Thursday: 9:00 AM to 2:30 PM
  • Friday: 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM

These reduced hours aim to provide flexibility and support to employees during the fasting period.

Flexible and remote work options

FAHR has also indicated that ministries and federal authorities may implement flexible working or remote work schedules during Ramadan, based on their specific requirements and within the approved daily working hours. This approach allows up to 70% of staff to work remotely on Fridays, balancing operational needs and employee well-being.

Private sector expectations

While the private sector often aligns its practices with public sector guidelines during Ramadan, official announcements regarding private sector working hours for 2025 are yet to be released. Historically, private companies in the UAE have reduced working hours by two hours per day during Ramadan, as stipulated by UAE labor law. Employees in the private sector are advised to await specific directives from their employers or relevant authorities.

Anticipated start of Ramadan 2025

Astronomical calculations suggest that Ramadan 2025 is expected to begin on Saturday, March 1, 2025. However, the official start date will be confirmed by UAE authorities based on moon sighting closer to the time.

During Ramadan, both public and private sector entities in the UAE adjust their working hours to accommodate the spiritual and physical needs of those observing the fast. Employees are encouraged to stay informed through official channels for updates regarding working hours and related practices during the holy month.
