Bayt.com Reveals Most Sought-after Skills by Employers this Quarter

Anticipating what the future might hold can be nerve-wracking for both job seekers and professionals alike. New trends, technological advancements, and the ever-changing socio-economic and political factors will inevitably bring forth changes in the job market.

It’s undoubtedly an intriguing topic and one that will create a lasting echo in the next coming years. People are wondering what the next hottest industry will be? What industry is looking to hire? What skills and academic qualifications will be the most sought after?

Key findings:

  • Overall for Private Sectors, the hiring trend in the next 3 months looks presumably high with top industries being Hospitality/ recreation/ entertainment, Human resources, and Advertising/Marketing/ Public Relations.
  • Hospitality/ Recreation/ Entertainment, Human Resources, and Banking/ Finance emerge as the top industries claiming to hire the most in the coming year.
  • Business Management (22%), Commerce (22%) and Engineering (21%) are the most sought-after academic qualifications amongst employers in the MENA region.
  • Good communication skills in Arabic and English (53%) emerge as the top skill that employers look for in a candidate. Being a team player (40%), having a great overall personality and demeanor (37%) and the ability to work under pressure (37%) follow behind.
  • A little over half the respondents claim that their company has hired new employees in the last 6 months, with 38% having hired new employees in the last 3 month

Data for the Middle East Job Index Survey for August 2019 was collected online from July 11th 2019 and August 17th 2019. Results are based on a sample of 1,886 respondents from the following countries: UAE, KSA, Kuwait, Oman, Bahrain, Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq, Palestine, Syria, Egypt, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Sudan, and others.
