How difficult is it to set up a company in the MENA? What are the biggest challenges faced by MENA entrepreneurs? Are entrepreneurs getting the support they need? Bayt.com answers all these questions and more in this survey.

Some highlights:

  • The vast majority of MENA professionals (71%) would prefer to be self-employed.
  • Reasons for being self-employed include ‘personal fulfillment’ (58%) and ‘freedom to choose work-life balance’ (41%).
  • ‘Not being afraid of failure’ is by far the best advice one could possibly give to aspiring entrepreneurs (42%).
  • When it comes to the best time to start a business, ‘at any time’ and ‘mid-career’ are the most popular times, both at37%.
  • Respondents feel that ‘Communications/ Information Technology’ and ‘Advertising/ Marketing/ Public Relations’ are the most favorable options for aspiring entrepreneurs in the MENA region.
  • Data for the Bayt.com Entrepreneurship in the Middle East survey was collected online from May30 to July24,2016, with715 respondents from the UAE, KSA, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman, Bahrain, Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Algeria, Egypt, Morocco and Tunisia.
