Senior Consultant - Environment

There is an increasing demand for strategic environmental and sustainability consultancy services within the Middle East, to support the growth of community development and infrastructure projects in real estate, government, utilities (energy, water and waste) and transport sectors. Our clients in these built environment sectors need Environmental strategies not only at the project level, but also at the corporate portfolio and organisational levels.

Our CS&A team requires an experienced senior Environmental Consultant to join our team in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE). The successful candidate will have proven experience in strategic Environmental Consulting on large-scale international projects ideally in the UAE and the wider Middle East region. The role will require a strong environmental permitting background and experience in delivering environmental studies in the UAE and wider Middle East. It will also entail having a strong working relationship with the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD) and ideally with Dubai Environment and Climate Change Authority (DECCA) and National Center for Environmental Compliance (NCEC) as the role will involve regular and close coordination with these authorities.

An exciting opportunity in AtkinsRealis is available for a passionate and motivated Senior Environmental Consultant to support our Sustainability and Environment (S&E) team. Your role will involve collaboration across with our team based in the UAE,KSA and India as well as technical specialists across the globe on a broad range of projects, lead and coordinate environmental services and related deliverables, work closely with our clients, and mentor others in the team. 

• Holds a degree qualified in relevant field (BSc/MSc/PhD) (e.g. Environmental Science, Planning).
• Holds an EIA Practitioner, chartered status and / or full membership of a recognised relevant professional body (e.g. Institute of Sustainability and Environmental Professionals (ISEP).
• 8+ years’ experience in strategic Environmental advisory and permitting including delivery of environmental studies (e.g. Strategic Environmental Assessment and Environmental Impact Assessment) and understanding its application to projects in the Middle East region and internationally.
• In-depth knowledge on local and international environmental regulatory frameworks, guidance and standards.
• Experience in tackling multidisciplinary consultancy or service projects that cross traditional engineering and other disciplines, such as urban planning, and engineering.
• Experience in leading strategic projects and possesses strong general EIA coordination skills, a specialism in marine/coastal, contamination/geo-environmental science, or groundwater/surface water, waste, noise, air quality, ecology would be considered advantageous.

• Flexible, adaptable and prepared to take on new challenges and work from AtkinsRealis or client office locations in Abu Dhabi.
• Have strong report writing, communication and presentation skills.
• Willingness and ability to interact with regulatory agencies, stakeholders, clients and develop effective teamwork relationships.
• Willingness to travel within UAE, KSA and the GCC region, if required.

What will you be doing?

• Lead strategic projects, environmental frameworks with large corporate clients to achieve their environmental targets and commitments.
• Support the client and stakeholder requirements while facilitating project delivery.
• Support AtkinsRéalis delivery teams for various projects with regards to environmental mitigation, enhancements and promote sustainability.
• Liaise with environmental, sustainability, strategic planning, urban design and landscape teams in the U.K. and in other Middle East offices (especially the KSA) and provide assistance with the delivery of assignments.
• Prepare and deliver environmental studies and provide inputs to master plans and feasibility studies in support of the delivery of major community and infrastructure projects.
• Support bids for new work and business development as well as the day-to-day operational management of the environment team.
• Mentor junior team members to help develop technical and soft skills within the team.
