Research Assistant (Geodesy, Remote Sensing)

Job Description:

The Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at UAEU is seeking a highly qualified Research Associate to contribute to an interdisciplinary research project on disaster risk management using remote sensing, geodesy, and artificial intelligence. The role focuses on advanced geospatial and geodetic analysis, particularly satellite altimetry, sea-level monitoring, and hazard modeling. Analyze satellite altimetry data for coastal and inland applications Develop geodetic models (e.g., geoid, gravity, sea surface topography) Perform time-series analysis (GNSS, altimetry, environmental data) Conduct GIS-based hazard and vulnerability assessments Apply statistical and AI/ML techniques for disaster risk modeling Integrate multi-source remote sensing datasets (SAR, optical, GNSS) Lead scientific publications and contribute to project reporting Collaborate with interdisciplinary research teams

Minimum Qualifications:

An appropriate educational degree supplemented with documented evidence to support the following: • PhD in Geodesy, Geoinformatics, Civil Engineering, Remote Sensing, or related field • Strong experience in satellite altimetry and geospatial analysis • Programming skills in Python or R • Experience in scientific research and publications

Preferred Qualifications:

• Postdoctoral research experience • Expertise in coastal/ocean altimetry and sea-level change • Strong background in geostatistics and uncertainty analysis • Experience with GIS platforms (ArcGIS, QGIS, Google Earth Engine) • Familiarity with AI/ML methods for geospatial data • Proven publication record in peer-reviewed journals
