COMPANY DESCRIPTION:
Our client is a leading South African meat wholesaler supplying meat and other food products to sectors of the hotel, restaurant and hospitality industries. They are looking for a Supervisor – Dry Goods to join their Cape Town team.
JOB DESCRIPTION / PURPOSE:
MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supervise packing and storage of dry goods
- Offloading trucks as required
- Minimize Waste in Dry store
- Maintain workflow and managing of team members
- Check that staff Members are at work and report absenteeism timeously to Section manager
- Ensure that stock pickers and you are wearing clean undamaged protective clothing as per company policy
- Assist the Section managers in planning the picking of stock for daily production or deliveries
- Assist the Section managers in planning the stacking of incoming stock and products in progress in the Dry store on a daily basis.
- Report low stock levels to section manager on a regular basis
- Communicate with Section managers, production stock controller and Final QC points about stock needed
- Stack completed, work in progress orders and incoming stock neatly in the dry store
- Ensure product segregation i.e. stack products per line item and or per allergen requirement
- Ensure that all products and pallets are clearly marked
- Ensure that all individual products are identified with a lot or batch number when stored
- Ensure stock rotation when selecting products from the freezers – First in First out (FIFO)
- Ensure that stock pickers adhere to your instructions and perform their duties as per their job descriptions
- Ensure controlled entrance by staff to Dry store
- Ensure products are checked for deviations from quality standards such as labels, lot or batch numbers and packaging while stacking
- Ensure good housekeeping practices in the Dry store
- Implement and maintain measures to reduce wastage of and damage to stock being stored in the Dry store
- Train new personnel in all stacking, storage and packing actions
Quality, Food Safety and Health & Safety
- Manage, maintain and enforce food safety procedures and requirements in the Dry store and for stock pickers
- Manage, maintain and enforce quality policies, procedures and requirements in the Dry store
- Manage, maintain and enforce Health & Safety legal requirements plus company procedures in the Dry store
- Ensure that all food safety and quality documents are completed timeously
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Grade 12 / Matric
- Diploma in Food Technology / Food Science
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Previous experience in a warehouse, dry goods, FMCG, food production or distribution environment
- Minimum 2–3 years' supervisory or team leader experience
- Experience working within the food, hospitality or meat wholesale industry advantageous
- Knowledge of stock control procedures and warehouse operations
- Understanding of FIFO (First In, First Out) stock rotation principles
- Knowledge of food safety, hygiene and quality standards
- Understanding of Health & Safety regulations and procedures
- Ability to supervise and manage warehouse/store staff effectively
- Good communication and leadership skills
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
- Good organisational and planning skills
- Attention to detail and accuracy when handling stock
- Ability to identify damaged, expired or incorrectly labelled stock
- Experience with stock picking, packing, stacking and storage processes
- Physically fit and able to assist with offloading trucks and moving stock when required
- Ability to maintain housekeeping and cleanliness standards in the dry store
- Ability to minimise wastage and control stock losses
- Willingness to work overtime, weekends or shifts if required
- Basic administrative and reporting skills
- Ability to train and guide new staff members
- Reliable, punctual and disciplined
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
